Dear Mommy,

Mothers often carry a quiet, profound fear when they send their children out into the world.

The world can be harsh and unforgiving, but it’s also beautiful, full of opportunities, and ripe with adventure.

I know you had that fear, but you trusted me enough to let me go, always encouraging me to follow my heart, even when it led me to unfamiliar places.

When I first started exploring the world on my own, you were hesitant, but your encouragement gave me the strength to venture out.

You supported me, and every trip I took was possible because of that trust.

After each journey, I always brought you a souvenir: a matching tee and cap. I loved how you would wear them proudly, sharing with everyone that your daughter had been to places far and wide.

You’d tell them the stories from my adventures—the ones that stood out to you the most, and I could feel how much joy that brought you.

For over ten years, we built a routine around my travels together. You were always there for my “taking off” and “landing” texts, and I loved knowing that you’d be waiting to hear from me.

That connection, that ritual, made every journey feel complete. But since you’ve been in heaven, the trips have felt different.

Traveling has lost a piece of its magic without being able to share those little moments with you. It’s hard not being able to send you updates or recap my adventures anymore.I also miss having those “my mom would kill me if she found out” moments.

My trip to Japan was amazing, full of alignment in my life in so many ways. But it was also full of sadness, missing you in a way that felt all-encompassing.

On Miyajima Island, I found peace in the soft rain. With my headphones in, I drifted through the crowds, and when I found quieter spots, I took them off to listen to the stillness of the island. It felt like I was walking closer to you.

When I reached the temple to light a candle for my ancestors, I felt you with me. I’ll keep taking you along on my travels, always carrying your spirit with me as I explore the world.

Your Baby Girl,
Gabby 💕

📍Kyoto (part 2): Hozugawa River Ride, Bamboo Forest, and Arashiyama. 🎋

This day was one of the highlights in Kyoto. I highly recommend the river ride. It’s such a unique and thrilling experience, plus the navigators were so funny. We got dropped off at Arashiyama where we got to shop, snack, and walk through the famous Bamboo Grove!

Kyoto will always have a special place in my heart. The first Japanese city I’ve visited and fell in love with back in 2017! 🥹
