🍷 The 2010 Hitching Post Julia Vineyard Experience

Sometimes, half the fun of wine is the unexpected challenge. Here is how our relaxed, improvised tasting unfolded:

The Pull: Attempting to extract a 16-year-old cork is always a gamble. When it snapped halfway through, it was the perfect excuse to panic... for exactly three seconds.

The Sieve Strategy: We raided the kitchen drawer, grabbed a fine-mesh strainer, and decanted the wine directly into a carafe. It worked beautifully and caught every last bit of the cork!

The Tasting Notes: Letting this Santa Maria Valley beauty breathe made all the difference. It was filled with beautiful, mellowed red cherry, baking spice, and rustic earthiness.

The Vibe: Sometimes strict wine etiquette gets in the way of a good evening. Straining out the cork turned a potentially ruined bottle into an engaging, memorable event that we couldn't stop laughing about.

A crumbling cork doesn't mean the wine is spoiled; it just means the cork got brittle with age! When did you last have to perform an unexpected "kitchen hack" to enjoy a bottle?

If you want, let me know:

What dish did you pair the wine with?

Did you have to use any other tools (like an "ah-so" two-pronged opener) before resorting to the strainer?

Ring in the new year the Lucine way, where dinner at The Fancy leads to a night that refuses to call it early. After a coastal-meets-celebration kind of supper, head to the Pergola for music by Galveston's @delmargtx at 7:30 PM ish and headliner @bamitskam at 10:00 PM ish. When you’re ready for something a little mysterious, slip into The Lanai, turned speakeasy for the night with tarot card readings, late-night cocktails, and whatever 2026 has up its sleeve.

Wake up to a slower start on New Year’s Day with brunch from 8 AM to 2 PM at @thefancytx, then ease fully into 2026 with a midday sound bath at 12 PM led by Shawn Porche of @galvestonholisticwellness.

Dinner, brunch, and VIP music seating reservations are on OpenTable, and Sound Bath tickets are on Eventbrite. Our link in bio will get you there.
