windy roads lead there too
fragile ideas gain strength
Working in international networks can work
days like today make me happy!

In 2020, just before COVID, I spent some weeks in Nairobi meeting and interviewing musicians and artists. And now so many fruits keep coming out of this.

🍓

Today we release the amazing Nairobi playlist by Kamwangi Njue – the playlist triggered this post and morning happiness ;-)

🍓

Dj Raph and Kamwangi Njue co-curated the first episode of our new project CITY SOUND. Check articles, podcasts, video clips and much more on Nairobi City Sounds on Norient.com. A big thank to Hannes Liechti for the initial City Sounds idea. Today, the launch is being celebrated in Nairobi!

🍓

Coco Em released her strong EP “Kilumi” (find it online), and she is new part of the co-curatorial team of the Norient Festival. Among the other wonderful curators from London, Bogotá, Zurich, Leicester, Delhi.

🍓

DJ Raph re-mixed some of the interviews I have done in Nairobi into music – for example statements by young and upcoming artist Victor Munyasya (who should/could become a philosopher too)

🍓

KMRU aka Joseph Kamaru became super successful (not because of us or me), plays around the globe, and this makes us happy too! Check the podcast portrait I did about him with Daniel Jakob.

🍓

Mr Luu co-worked with us on the online edition of the Norient Film Festival 2021.

🍓

Last but not least: I’m still excited about the Timezones Nairobi episode I did after the Nairobi trip. Again with Daniel Jakob, and with the support of Goethe Institut – so thankful that they keep believing in trying to create an experimental podcast series that aims to create songs, tracks, compositions out of interviews.

🙏

Thanks to so many people for your passion, work, knowledge!

Become a member of our Norient Space and keep supporting this effort of multi-local curation and storytelling and bringing music/art, journalism and research closer together.

I myself, next to Norient, work on an album release in a soonish (in-challah) to be announced duo with Daniel Jakob, and on a podcast series «South Asian Sound Stories». More on these things later.

❤️

Kenyan music continues to evolve, however occasionally it's important to remember those that set the bar.

Below are some music groups whose new music is really missed...

Which group do you miss the most?🤨🤔
