“Go outside. Don’t tell anyone and don’t bring your phone. Start walking and keep walking until you no longer know the road like the palm of your hand … Just walk, see, sit down if you like. And be. Just be, whatever you are with whatever you have, and realize that that is enough to be happy. There’s a whole world out there, right outside your window. You’d be a fool to miss it.”

You were standing in the kitchen at 2am
and the light was doing that thing
to your body
that always reminds me of something that hasn’t happened yet.
I thought, you’re so beautiful ,
I thought, I should say something,
I thought, the eggs are burning.

I have loved people the way you love a city
you’re about to leave.
I remember your hands,
the rest is just weather and
I have been in seven cities since you.

Some nights I sit in bars where nobody knows me
and I feel so free I can’t breathe.
You asked if I was happy
and I described the curtains in a room in another country.
I keep dreaming about the stairwell.
Your coat on the railing.
The sound before you said the thing
not the thing
just the sound before it.

I am not good at ordinary love.
I have tried.
I have shown up with groceries
and good intentions
but I don’t know what to do
with a body that wants
this much.

There is a version of this
where I let you go clean.
Where I don’t drive past your street
or look for you outside the Italian bar
or down the road
but I am still the woman
who stands in kitchens at 2am
watching things burn
because the light is so good
and I am always
always
about to say something.

the book feels like a transition,
a transition from young, lost and broken,
to acceptance,
to putting the pieces back together,
and having faith in the self,

and though our anti-heroine would never stop trying,
fighting,
searching,
there is a shift in perspective,

may be as to what success means to her,
what she wants out of life,
how she chooses to pursue her dream moving forward,
and there are changes,
so many of them-

there is a new tone in her voice,
not the resigned one
but the kind that comes with experience,
like she says time and again,
"growing up is a wonderful thing to do..."

there is an overall sense of peace, of calm,
rather than the anxious, relentless energy
which had become so characteristic of the glass child,

there are still miles to go,
but there's no urgency.

(here are some of the exerpts from book 4 that stood out to me.. happy reading!)

I wanted to experiment with some meandering Engrosser's Script, so I picked a gorgeous quote on wandering by Charlotte Eriksson @justaglasschild

It may be difficult for you to read the text, so here it is for your convenience:
"It’s the beating of my heart. The way I lie awake, playing with shadows slowly climbing up my wall. The gentle moonlight slipping through my window and the sound of a lonely car somewhere far away, where I long to be too, I think. It’s the way I thought my restless wandering was over, that I’d found whatever I thought I had found."

I felt myself level up recently.

Throughout my life I've had plenty of people walk out.
Family, friends, lovers..
And it always hurt me deep, and I'd try everything I could to hold on.
I chased love.
An anxious attachment style.
It helped me realize that I have abandonment issues as well.
But recently I've had a few friendships dissolve.

And when I realized it was happening, I didn't hold tighter- I quietly let it go.
Usually I'd over explain, apologize, over communicate.
But I didn't feel the need to anymore.

Recently, I've learned the art of not overpouring.
Of stepping away.
Of relenting and releasing.
Of watching them go.

And I was ok with it.

And then - I felt it.
I felt myself break free.
My glow up.

Now I don't chase anything.
I invite peace.
I welcome connection.
I pour into Creativity.

Hello! I’m Rosie, a book editor, lifelong bookworm and writer based in Glasgow. Over the last 10 years, I've been lucky to support myself doing something I love while making cherished connections with writers whose careers and talents I’ve watched blossom in magical and unexpected ways. Despite being very proud of all the projects I’ve been involved in, I’ve been pretty quiet about my work on social media, partly because I wanted @rosievox to be a little space of creative expression, and partly because I’m just not naturally inclined towards self-promotion. But over the last few months, as AI has begun to change creative industries, I’ve felt it’s time to start. So on my new account (@rosievoxbooks) I’ll be doing that—sharing glimpses into ~the life of a book editor~ (highly glamorous fyi).

Because I want this to be something I enjoy doing and to make connections with the wider book and writing communities, I’ll also be posting about non-work-related things: books I’m reading, book-to-movie adaptations (and also movies that *feel* like books), writing & editing tips, reflections of the city I live in and love, as well as any of my own writing that makes it out into the world. (To this end, I’m putting the final touches on my debut novella, a queer romance centred on two mermaids employed to work the summer at a futuristic theme park in 1950’s Los Angeles.) Also, cats—you’ll meet the aptly literary-named Merry and Pippin soon, the two sweetest fluffballs I’m very lucky to hang out with often 😊.

I truly love my job and working with writers at all stages of their careers, so whether it’s a follow, a like, a share, or passing my name along to someone you know, any bit of support means a lot 🖤.
