"Exercise is not therapy. Therapy is therapy and exercise is exercise." - @lizgual.rd Back in 2014 when I started this account my mantra was exercise is therapy, little did I know I was self abandoning.

I would use exercise as a way to manage my emotions and mental state. I felt good after each and every single work out almost too good.

While it was a great resource for my mental health I was also navigating through hard parts of my marriage. I see now that in 2015 I was numbing parts of my experience with exercise. We would get into an argument, I would leave to exercise and “cool down”, he would see me feeling OK and we wouldn’t resolve our conflict.

The endorphins, the feel good chemical boost signaled to me that I AM in a flow state and gave me motivation and affirmation that I was working on me in positive ways.

But my needs, desires, and emotions were not being fully expressed as effectively then because I dismissed it and self-abandoned them because I was "feeling good" despite knowing that boundaries I wasn't enforcing because I was too afraid to enforce them.

I also had a deep fear of acknowledging my discontent because as a woman I was conditioned to believe that being unhappy when you have everything society wants you to have was a sign of not being grateful.

What I've learned through the years is that not honoring or speaking your full unleashed truth regardless of the reaction it might cause the other person is more detrimental.

In the past two years radical honesty and radical transparency are two guiding principles in all of my relationships — personal and professional. It's also the principles I teach other women to not be afraid of.

Owning your truth and the emotions, thoughts, and sensations present in the body is honoring yourself, your experience. AND it also honors and respects the other person allowing them top be responsible for their feelings and reactions about what you're communicating even when its hard.

The things we unlearn right? What was a lesson you had to unlearn in 2020? #womxninprogress

Are you going gray too? Tell me about your gray hair journey and if you're loving it or not.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For some discovering that first gray hair is a moment of disappointment; others embrace it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I found my first grey hair when I was 22, almost 15 years ago. At the time I was a hairstylist so I knew that going grey was a sign that my body wasn't producing as much melanin and the loss of color in the hair strand was simply a byproduct of our body's natural aging process. I wasn't fazed by it, but I do remember having memories of my mom frustrated at her gray hairs coming in around the same age as I am now. I remember telling her as a young girl, "It's just a sign of wisdom and life experience mom." She would always reply, "...and STRESS!"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe I've gotten a few more gray patches because of stress due to all the changes happening this year. And if my gray hairs are a symbol of all the growth that comes from change, life transitions, and the wisdom that comes from it. Then bring it on!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While I'm focused on lots of goals in 2021, the biggest one I'm focused on is feeling fully raptured in all of five of my senses living life alive and vital in a full-blown sensory experience. In addition to being an example of a mother who faces her fears and life's challenges with grace, compassion, strength, beauty, and courage.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm going gray and loving it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
