Decent open mic last night. They wedged my acoustic cypher session between sets for fuckin' @danbauermusic and his sorry-ass songs. Obviously should have been the headliner instead, but what can you do...

Come see ya boi perform another slew of original songs and a few covers, but without the "cover" charge (yes, there will be dad jokes, too, you really ought to just deal with it). Tonight 8:00. @carlorosemusicvenue presented by @justforkicksjfk Let's gooooo 🎸 🎤🎹

-stupid long post warning-
First photo was right after the sold out @cescru show two nights ago. The biggest crowd I’ve gotten to perform written material for so far. The house was packed at the shaskeen and the show was amazing. All the openers killed it, including myself, and Ces Cru destroyed the stage for 90 minutes. It did make me obnoxiously reflective though. This was the first year I’ve ever taken myself seriously and started putting real work and time into music. I had to go through some heavy shit over a year ago to realize I hadn’t actually done anything since I was 18 years old. In 2016 I was 21, and in three years I’d only done one show. I hadn’t recorded more than a couple songs and I’d made very few connections. October of that year I decided to get my shit together again. I started writing a new project. I needed something I could show people and be proud of. More importantly I needed something honest. Something real. Almost exactly a year later I had what I wanted to make: The October Tape. (Link in bio) I’d also spent the winter through the summer going to any show I could get to. Getting in on any cypher or open mic I could find until I started proving to people I was worth their time to listen. I did my first show with my new material in February of this year, and since then I haven’t stopped moving. If there was a hip hop event in the area, there’s a good shot I was there. I’ve made friends, fans, music, and connections, and people whose names I’d heard in high school started treating me like a peer. 2017, while difficult in some ways, was my most personally fulfilling year to date. I’m confident I’m going to look back on this year as the start of my career. Here’s to doing it 10 times bigger in 2018. If you’ve been with me so far, I appreciate you. I’ve recently had a few people tell me that my music connected with them. I even had one friend tell me I saved his life. That seems like a lot of credit to give me, but thank you. I’ve started making my name and I’m not stopping anytime soon. - Jacobsen
