Demarico Hay’s case:
NON-VIOLENT OFFENSE. 15-YEAR FEDERAL SENTENCE. IS THIS JUSTICE? ⚖️👇🏾

A federal case out of the Eighth Circuit (Demarico Hay, Case #2-21-cr-00165-BSM) is drawing national attention over federal sentencing disparities, judicial discretion, and the fight for presidential clemency.

📍 THE CASE
Demarico Hay was handed a steep federal sentence on a non-violent federal gun possession charge. Critics point to broader studies—like research from The Sentencing Project—showing Black defendants statistically facing harsher federal sentencing outcomes for similar offenses.

📍 THE ADVOCACY CONNECTION
Hay is seeking support from criminal justice advocates, including Weldon Angelos and the Mission Green project. Angelos—who previously served time before securing a pardon and founding Mission Green to fight for federal sentence reductions—has successfully helped navigate federal relief pathways.

📍 THE GOAL: CLEMENCY & REFORM
With federal non-violent sentencing under intense scrutiny, Hay is petitioning for community support letters and visibility toward a presidential pardon or sentence commutation.

“Rather than fostering rehabilitation, prisons often inadvertently entrench the very pathologies they seek to eradicate.” — Demarico Hay

HOW TO TAKE ACTION:
1️⃣ Drop your thoughts in the comments on federal sentencing reform.
2️⃣ Share this post to build awareness around non-violent federal clemency petitions.
3️⃣ Follow along for updates as we cover federal case breakdowns and justice reform news.
