No. 1: Georgia sweeps the Athens Super Regional in unbelievable fashion to advance to the College World Series.

Where do I even begin with this one? Down 7 runs in Game 1, Michael O’Shaughnessy went deep twice including a heroic go-ahead blast in the 8th inning and the Dawgs authored one of the greatest comebacks in NCAA history to take the opening game. Then, after Mississippi State came crawling back in Game 2, Brennan Hudson tied it in the 9th before the Rhino unloaded on one in the 10th to give the Dawgs the lead again. The hometown kid Justin Byrd closed it out both days. The team of destiny would not be denied and brought Georgia back to Omaha for the first time since 2008. What a magical weekend that we’ll never forget.

What moments do you think will round out the Top 15?

15. Kolby Branch homers in final college at-bat against his brother Kyle.
14. Smurf Millender’s game winning and-one layup to beat Missouri in Columbia.
13. Jeremiah Wilkinson drains back-to-back threes in overtime in a win over Auburn.
12. Georgia wins in Rupp Arena for the first time since 2009.
11. Georgia sweeps the SEC regular season and tournament titles.
10. Georgia scored 20 unanswered after Auburn fumbles at the goal line to win on the plains.
9. Cole Johnson robs Stone Lawless to win the series over Tennessee.
8. Georgia recovers the onside kick up 11 to put Texas away between the hedges.
7. Georgia wins WLOCP thriller over Florida in Jacksonville.
6. Tre to the trees to win the Athens Regional.
5. Georgia defense steps up late to win a shootout over Ole Miss in Athens.
4. Joey Volchko strikes out 15 in a complete game performance against Texas in the CWS.
3. Georgia stuns Tennessee with overtime win on Rocky Flop.
2. Georgia dominates Alabama for revenge win and back-to-back SEC titles.
1. Georgia sweeps Athens Super Regional to advance to CWS for first time since 2008.

*This is my personal opinion of the Top 15 moments of the last athletic season. There are many great moments left off this list and feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.

STORY TIME ….. People see the draft, the SEC school and the successful spring, but few know the struggle.

Kyle & Justin weren’t “highly” recruited out of HS. Like a lot of players they got overlooked by the Power 4 Schools. I would talk to coaches and they would tell me what they didn’t have and why the couldn’t play at that level.

However what both guys did have was a drive and a belief in themselves that can’t be measured at a showcase or on a piece of paper. Both guys believed in themselves, believed in their talent and believed they could compete with the best in the country.

So they kept PUTTING IN WORK.

They found smaller schools to sign with from HS. Choosing to keep playing & chasing their dreams. They both over came injuries in college. Fought thru the pain and doubt of rehab as they worked themselves back on to the field.

When they got back on the field they did what they have always done best. They competed and they won! Helping two of the best programs in the country … in the best conference in the country … were two guys that a lot of people passed on.

So congratulations gentlemen!! Proud of both Kyle and Justin for their accomplishments on the field and more importantly being great young men off the field. Keep putting in work and believing in yourself. Excited to continue to follow their careers as the compete with the best in the world.

With the 170th pick of the 2026 MLB Draft the Los Angeles Angels select Justin Byrd, a right-handed pitcher out of the University of Georgia!

Welcome to the Halos, @justinbyrd___!

Per OverSlot:
"Phenomenal mover who will get the chance to start in pro ball. Was Georgia's closer.

A lot of traditinal scouting lens things to love with this pick."

Per Jared Tims:
"FB 93-95 T97 with good life, low 80s sweeper, mid 80’s CH. Was the closer at Georgia. Justin Byrd has an above average slider and should have a very good chance to start."
