Cancer, Comedy and Catharsis

I wasn’t sure whether it was appropriate to make a comedy dance piece about my experience of living with cancer.

Workshopping with Justin Kimball and Sarah Beck from Comedy Dance Chicago, helped me to explore a new way of thinking.

Our starting point was the song: The Devil Went Down to Georgia by the Charlie Daniels Band. I became Johnny, Justin became the Devil and Sarah choreographed the comedy.

I’ve written about the conversation, the ideas we explored, and how movement helped us develop the story.
