We often talk about a lack of ambition among young people (Gen Z) 🧐
But what if the real issue is visibility?

This story follows a student entrepreneur Isabel Aukland who did everything she was told to do. She searched for work experience. She applied for programmes. She stayed curious and proactive. And still, she repeatedly missed opportunities.

Not because she wasn’t looking.
Not because she wasn’t capable.
Not because she didn’t care.

But because opportunity is fragmented, poorly signposted and often shared too late. The system makes discovery harder than it should be.

It’s a reflection on access, inequality by default and why many of the most relevant solutions come from the people experiencing the problem first-hand.

The piece explores how that frustration turned into JutJut and what it reveals about access, timing and why student entrepreneurship is so often rooted in lived experience, not theory.

If you care about education, opportunity or supporting the next generation of founders, this one’s worth your time.

Literally wish someone told me these…

1️⃣ SUPER CURRICULARS >>> RANDOM CLUBS ECT (All on @jutjutuk)

These are opportunities (essay comps, summer schools, WEX, etc) which show your interest in your chosen subjects. THE MAIN THING UNIs care about.

I built the new social media style platform to make them easy for you to find @jutjutuk. (Just Cus it was so annoying for me to find them last year). We have 1000+ members already

2️⃣ SUBJECT UNI OPEN DAYS

Alongside the normal open days, unis will have ones just for your subject. I found these more insightful as you got deeper insights into the department and teaching styles. (We also put these on @jutjutuk haha) but keep your eyes out 👀, they fly by.

3️⃣ PREDICTED GRADES MATTER A LOT

Teachers say Year 12 isn’t as important as Year 13. Yes it’s not as official but arguably it is. Your Year 12 mocks can really influence those predicted grades (particularly for early entry) so if you want to apply with as high as possible… make sure to be ready. As although I needed to get A* predictions I now can still achieve A’s to get in.
