As we near the end of this calendar year, we are feeling grateful for the amazing opportunity we get to host fabulous student interns that join us each summer on the island to learn, lead, and grow with us. While our magic is rooted in our island community, we have wings that stretch our impact across the entire Salish Sea and beyond. We have 54 partners across the Salish Sea! Over the last five years, we have supported 40 internships for youth ages 16 - 25; 26 of these students were high schoolers and 14 were either college or early career interns! These opportunities are stepping stones for individuals interested in natural sciences and ecology. Students get experience in community science and research while also having unique experiences with the community, ecosystems, and species that make up our island community.
This past year, we had two wonderful college interns join us - one being an international student from the UK and the other studying across the country in Boston! Tom Humpries and Juwaria Jama were a joy to work with and their internships supported spreading our wings even farther than we have. We wanted to know more about their experiences with us at VNC and got the sweet gift of these quotes! Thank you so much to all the interns who come to join us at VNC, you enrich us and our community. #vashonnaturecenter

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2024 Giving Tuesday campaign! Whether you shared our posts, donated to our Giving Tuesday fundraiser, or signed up for one of our ongoing community science projects - we are grateful for you! The best part of this campaign has been seeing the overwhelming support that our community has for Vashon Nature Center projects, events, and programs. Our work represents how any person, anywhere, can make a positive difference in their community. The programs we host on Vashon not only enrich our island community but also support region-wide environmental research and collaborative networks that foster a healthy Salish Sea for all. Thank you for being a part of the wonder of this work and for making it all happen with us!
