I late with this post, but hey, better late than never, right?
We had these two wines for the Open That Bottle Night 2026, and they were nothing short of spectacular.
1993 Lopez de Heredia Viña Tondonia Blanco was still fresh, focused and beautiful. 2013 Fiction by Field Recordings was just heavenly, showing no sign of age.

On January 7, 2023, our friend @jvbuncorked invited @garydeanlink and I to a dinner party beyond all dinner parties. He made all the food and I think there were 17 courses. He also brought all the wine from his personal cellar.

At the end of the evening he handed me this bottle to take home. I had no idea when I would drink this. Then when we had friends @kate_whittle and @zachdamaniac over for and evening of wine before they move to Seattle. I knew it was time. Rarely does one get to drink a 35 year old wine. Let alone a Piedmont Bramaterra Riserva.

The acidity was shockingly fresh and vibrant. The nose was wrapped in sweet tobacco. And the palate was a cornucopia of red fruits and cedar and tobacco. This was such a wow opportunity that I and thrilled to have shared with Kate and Zach. Gary and I are grateful for the friendship we have with Jim who gave us this bottle to share as well as Kate and Zach who we look forward to visiting in Seattle.

Cheers!

I opened this 13 year old @calaiswinery Texas Tempranillo a few days ago. Wow! It was fantastic. Ripe fruit, bramble and peppery spice with a bit of a smokey note. It aged very well and I deserved it after doing a bit of demo to the house. Well done @benjamin.calais 👏

When you’re told to go open a wine that will pair with salmon, I went to our wine jail that houses our Pinot Noir. I pull out a bottle and just looked at the date (2016) and said we must open this. I went over to the counter, opened the wine and poured a glass and it was white. My first response was what is white doing with the reds. Then tasting it, hmm, this is going to be good, so I put the cork in it and waited until the next day (yesterday) to drink it.

Oh my!!! 2016 Domaine Andre Bonhomme Les Pierres Blanches Vire Clesse was perfect. It was elegant, charming, perfectly balanced and at its peak. Soft flavors of melon, pineapple hint of honey with nice soft minerality from the limestone soils.

Now I wish I had another bottle. I was worried about both the age and chilling it for a day. All worked out.
