Thank you to everyone who joined us for Art & Nature Day and the openings of “Begin Again: Honey Chile’” by Alison Saar and “Begin Again: Untitled” by Ursula von Rydingsvard! We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful fall day to gather and get creative together!

A special thank-you to @alison_saar for sharing her passion, insight, and inspiration during an artist chat with Curator Dana Turkovic.

From making fall memory jars with dried flowers and foraged materials to building miniature sculptures with natural materials, found objects, and wire, we loved seeing so many visitors connect with art and nature through hands-on activities inspired by our “Begin Again” exhibition series. Visitors also had the chance to explore Laumeier’s 2051 community time capsule before it was sealed and buried for the next 25 years!

If you missed the exhibition openings, we invite you to take a walk along the Art Hike Trail to experience both installations!

Art & Nature Day is presented in partnership with @stlcountyparks. “Begin Again: Alison Saar, Honey Chile’” is made possible by John and Susan Horseman and supported by PNC Foundation.

On July 28, I celebrated a full year of working as @counterpublic Public Programs Manager! It has been such a journey from 6 years as full-time stay-at-home-dad / freelance graphic designer to being a full-time employee of an arts org in St. Louis’ vibrant and bustling arts and culture community! I couldn’t have asked for a better place to land or a better team to be a part of. It’s something special to be fully aware that the “good old days” are now and that you’re a part of a “golden era” crew. When I came on board, I immediately felt like everyone had my back and I theirs. After a year of workshops, talks, activations, a freaking Convening, and literally 1 million e-mails, I know that that bond remains stronger than ever. As we gear up to the opening of Counterpublic 2026 Coyote Time (September 10 - December 12), I urge every single one of you to check out this incredible citywide arts exhibition. We’ve had the great fortune of working with 5 amazing curators, 50 incredible artists, and a legion of creatives, builders, and community partners working tirelessly behind the scene to bring dreams into fruition. I’m incredibly proud of Counterpublic’s work and I know in my heart of hearts that St. Louis deserves a triennial of this caliber. We should all be so proud. All info, programs schedule, and more can be found at counterpublic.org

P.S. Catch some incredible performances from composer Nina Keith and SLSO musicians, Natural Information Society (performing a durational set amongst Joshua Abrams and Lisa Alvarado’s sculpture), Kite (along with Alex Cunningham, Lex Kosieradzki, Mere Harrach, and Andre Lubart) in response to their dream sculpture piece in Tower Grove Park, Tromarama (activating their sculpture with Ousmane Gaye, Danielle Feinstein, NNN Cook, and Alberto Patiño), Damon Smith performing Ben Patterson’s ‘Variations for Double Bass (1961)’, and more!!

Omaha is a sweet city and these 2 1/2 weeks as a curator-in-residence at @bemiscenter have been so rejuvenating, productive, and fun! Thank you to Rachel Adams and Carlie Waganer for the invitation, to this residency cohort for being amazing, and for all the pups who kept my bb Hopey company in the prairie! I’ll be back again I’m sure.

Onwards to Santa Fe for the SWAIA Indian Market this weekend! See you there?
