POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I worked at Columbia TriStar Television (now @sonypicturestv )for many years in photo publicity department. As Creative Services Director I was asked to head out to Wilmington, North Carolina to help with a photo shoot with a group of fresh-faced kids cast in a new series no one yet knew would become a massive smash hit.

They were all teenagers except James who was 20. One of the kids was an emancipated minor and one snagged their role from a mailed audition tape that they sent directly to @kevwilliamson. James was at the very beginning of something that shaped pop culture. Watching him bring Dawson to life was witnessing the start of a moment none of us could have predicted.

I remember telling my boss I wanted to shoot some behind-the-scenes photos “just in case the show really hits” There was something special happening is all I knew. Between the official shoot with photographer @george.lange, I managed to quietly capture these casual moments.

I don’t think the studio ever saw these. I know the cast never did. But, here they are. @vancityjax @katieholmes #michellewilliams @vanderkimberly

These photos bring back the fondest memories of getting a show off the ground and watching lightning strike. They also bring a deep ache for @vanderjames and his beautiful family. He deserved more time on this earth. 😔

Fly high, Dawson. It was a pleasure. 📷 🤍 🪽
