Shadow Mountain Choss Society, full moon edition

On shadow, choss is life. Here, Certified loose hold enthusiast Alex demonstrates proper tech for nighttime choss-lording. Alex spends his time big wall climbing in Yosemite but returns to Shadow because of its reputation as a proving ground for world-class choss goblins, scree surfers, talus trolls, and ridge rats alike. #shadowmtnrunclub #aspen #climbing

Reports are flooding in of a successful climbing season on Annapurna I. Meanwhile, we can’t help but wonder, why didn’t those guys just come rip a shadow lap instead? #chossy #shadowmtnrunclub #madrespecttothoseclimbersbtw

So what’s even the point?
Skinning on rocks, bushwhacking through willows, wrecking our skis for a few seconds of sliding?
It doesn’t fix anything. Doesn’t solve the winter.
But it’s paying attention. Like showing up. Christmas Eve, and winter still hasn’t shown up in CO.
I think everyone feels it. 📷 @forrest_barton_

This moment. These incredible humans. It’s been a gift to grow together over the years. We’ve shown up for each other, pushed each other to be better, stronger, more badass, more resilient. This is the toughest group to say “see ya later” to. Always remember that when you fail to bet on yourself, I always am. 🥊 #endofanera #lastdance #fitness #ltemployee #lifetime #colorado #grouptraining #kickboxing #bootyworkout #studioclasses #fitlife #strength #squats #toughasamother #burpee #weekend warriors #fitfam #denver #barbellworkout #cyclinglife #hiitworkout #destress #holidayseason #bikelife #garmin #crossfit #boxing #trainhard

The @theraddirt fest was an epic weekend of road tripping, car camping, gravel adventuring, side splitting laughs and maybe too much pizza. The penultimate stop of the Lifetime Grand Prix in Trinidad, CO in the Spanish Peaks did not disappoint. The race started fast and aggressive with a nasty crash at the front. I fortunately avoided this but that is where I said goodbye to the front of the race and started my own pacing for the next few hours of climbing. I didn’t have the legs I needed to keep up with the front group but I am really proud of my mental focus for the next 7hrs of racing and I loved rallying my #mog down some ripping descents amidst the fall colors. Temps and weather changed drastically, as one should expect in the high mountains, and I welcomed the rain after a hot and challenging climb. I found @matt.charity at an aid station and we finished the race together then found @jzall11 . We ate the complimentary race pizza then went into a restaurant to order two more pizzas. We burned a lot of calories out there.

Circumnavigating the Zirkle Wilderness

We started from @amymcharity ‘s home at 5:30am. The world was still and quiet in the dark. All I could see was the small space illuminated by my bike lights. I think the dark dispersed the usual stream of thoughts and allowed me be in my breathing in the moment. This was my favorite part of the day. Conversation was light hearted as we left Steamboat and started the longest sustained climb of the day, Buff Pass.

We refueled with @elisemordos around hour 4. Thank you! The section after this was where I started to feel challenged. My neck and shoulders were getting stiff so I would sit up whenever possible, stretch on the bike and refocused on appreciating the incredible scenery.

I was pretty ragged when we rolled into @boundless_endurance camp around hour 8. Seeing @ryankrol and Liana was a serious mood booster and thanks to my sandwich chips and coke I was born again and rolled into the final segment of the ride with a new sense of confidence.

The final hours were new territory. I’ve never ridden longer than 8hrs and I found myself relaxed knowing I still had the legs and I had hit my fueling sufficiently. Now it was just rolling and @jzall11 was my hostage. I hope he enjoyed my relentless chatter. I certainly appreciated having a friend to pace with.

Getting off the bike after 11hrs was really painful. I almost wanted to get back on because when I sat on the ground in front of Amy’s house everything that had been held back suddenly came flooding out. My body was on fire, I felt like crying. Happy tears cause I’d just done something big.
