“I have a hard time thinking of myself as someone who deserves to make something that people love or like.
Why would I expect people to love the thing that I make? And a lot of the time [that] stopped me from making something that I loved. And then I realized a lot of what I do now: I'm literally just making whatever I want to just because I'm the one who wants to do it. And then the people that do see it, and stick around also love it. It’s really validating.”

![Under a fluorescent beam, ideas etched in blue ink scatter across workstations. The sound of machinery begins to whir, loose parts begin to assemble. Enter IRDREA.
"BLOOM" is only the first drop by ( @ird.rea ), an LA-based fashion design collective led by creative director Howard Hsu. Limited to 20 pairs for retail, Hsu's reimagined silhouette of a classic boot is carefully hand-crafted with assorted Italian calfskin from heel to toe. We met with Hsu and partner Adrian Wong at Lalaland manufacturing factory (@lala.land.pd ) in Los Angeles to hear more about his design perspective and approach.

"To me, irdrea is not just a brand, it's a perspective on design. There is a saying in design called the three reads, & this is my interpretation of it.
The first read is almost always about beauty. It can be alluring, yet serves no physical function besides its presence.
In the second read, you begin to understand the meticulous details behind a design that creates a functional product.
The th[ird rea]d forces me to find a balance between two perspectives, creating a product that is idiosyncratic and full of identity.
Each perspective could not exist without the other, which creates a triangle of thought that I cross reference before my ideas become reality."
