To paraphrase The Beach Boys – be cool to your school (or, to speak with Twisted Sister – be cruel to your school). We just came back from @rietveldacademie (the place where we spent the ’90s as students, and the ’00s as teachers), and caught the last couple of hours of this year’s graduation show (July 1–5, 2026). We took some quick, rushed snapshots, in no particular order, for your viewing pleasure (and we do hope we got all the credits right). Pictures 1–3: Velko Kalchev. Pictures 4–5: Fadri Brunner. Picture 6: Anja Aurand. Pictures 7–8: Sebastian Eisenach. Picture 9: Cassiopée Charles–Messance. Pictures 10–12: Greta Wegmann. Picture 13: uncredited. Picture 14: Ivo Blackwood. Picture 15: Anouk Albrecht. Picture 16: Cameron Lynch. Picture 17: Sharif Sahir. Picture 18: Jorge Herrero Alberquilla. Picture 19: uncredited. Picture 20: Fadri Brunner. Congrats to all those involved. And to answer the question from that last picture – was the trip really worth it? Absolutely!

SPILL THE THESIS

1/2/3 July, 12-13h
Auditorium

Join us for a thesis talkshow during the first 3 days of the Graduation Show with graduating students from all departments, hosted by alum Rabea Ridlhammer!

During three sessions, students will share some insight into their thesis topics, the research and writing process as well as connections to their respective practices. They were selected by their theory teachers.

In conversation with the host and each other the graduates will discuss experimental forms and spill the tea on any problems they might have encountered during the writing or moments of delight experienced behind the desk…

MEET THE GRADUATES! #3 Cassiopée

Who are you?
Cassiopée Charles-Messance, b. 2002 France, Graduate of DesignLAB 2026

Favorite cake ?
Something around lime mango and basil, or anything with these colors. Also choco, I love choco.

Favorite tool?
Angle grinder on wood. It feels like carving onto butter. It allows me to work intuitively, without planning or calculating.

Whats your obsession?
I’ve been obsessing over air turbines and highways around grass fields. And all the speed happening when passing through it. Also radios. Something with the wind, that the radio follows as well. My latest greatest purchase on Vinted has been this radio pen. I absolutely can’t wait to journal about graduation in my next summer Flixbus.

Where can we find you?
Room 621 BC Building. The only room facing the street side with views on the highway and the green cemetery. See You There

TREEHOUSE for graduation, 2024

link to full video is in my bio!

by far my favorite project, I had no idea what I was doing and so many of my friends stepped in to help, making this a true community project, made by students for students! A place of relaxation, a childhood wish, a smoking area, a stage!! Leaving Amsterdam but hearing from so many people that the treehouse is a dear social spot in school has filled me with so much joy!!
Making this video has been a great source of nostalgia,
I am forever ever thankful to everybody who participated<333333 the busiest yet most beautiful month of my studies

Current Affairs, a group exhibition by DesignLAB students from Gerrit Rietveld Academie explores diverse conceptions of currents. Constructing a link between environmental and societal changes, the works collectively reflect on how dynamic forces shape their environment. Whether referencing atmospheric changes, migration of people or flow of information, currents form an integral structure of the universe. The exhibition runs in parallel with (Un)Thinking Futures by fellow students from Rietveld Ceramics.
