Pickle nailed her L2I like a queen 👑

Search 1: 3 hides | 3 mins | Kitchen
Hoomum mentally prepared herself for this to be the hardest search — three hides and a kitchen?! But reality said otherwise 😂 Pickle worked the area beautifully and, from hoomum’s very faint memory, even found one inaccessible hide!
One fault though… because stupid hoomum somehow left the leash inside the search area 🤦🏻‍♀️

Search 2: 2 hides | 2 mins | Classroom
That random book on the floor was interesting… hahahaaa. And of course, there was a hide there! Pickle stayed super focused and worked the search like a pro.

Search 3: 2 hides | 2.5 mins | Woodwork workshop
Pickle actually alerted on the second hide pretty quickly, but hoomum completely missed the opportunity to call it 😭 It took Pickle a little while to get back to source, but she still nailed it!

Search 4: 1 hide | 1.5 mins | Gym
The search area was only a small section of the room, but hoomum decided to let Pickle work off-leash anyway. She didn’t care about anything else — just that odour and finding the source.

All searches could be done on or off leash, and hoomum chose to let Pickle search off-leash. Whatever the outcome, the most important thing was that she had fun.

And we absolutely loved the search areas! So many objects, new environments and different challenges. Watching Pickle work through everything with that drive to source is simply amazing.

L2I, you were so much fun. Until next time! 👑❤️

Australia had its first ACSW Elite trial yesterday, hosted in Sydney by @k9nosetimeofficial and PeTeQ!

Mum and I have waited two years for this trial and it did not disappoint! It was tough, but fun and I worked my tail off!

We found 17/20 hides (max found was 18), came third in one of the searches, and received a partnership award from each of the two judges.

At this level you are allowed to make some mistakes, and the few we made cost us, but we walked away with 77.5 points towards our first Elite title.

Huge thank you to the hosts, officials, volunteers, the awesome carpark crew and to my road trip buddies!

Same same but different - we ventured out to finish up our ORT title today ✨

Funnily enough it was birch he dropped last time and the only one we needed today!

Timon was slightly confused at having to only find one hide and work for about 10 seconds! 😂

Our first attempt at Nose Work 2 and Libby nailed it!
NW2 consists of 5 searches covering all 4 elements (containers, vehicles, exterior and interior) with 1 - 3 hides per search. You have to pass all 5 searches on the day to gain your NW2 title, and she bloody did it!

Being a guardian breed, Libby is not the faster searcher. She needs time to process the environment before she can focus. But when she’s comfortable, she switches on and gets to work.
And that’s the thing I love about Nose Work, any dog can do it, no matter the breed, age or size. All dogs love to sniff and it allows them to tap into their natural hunting instincts and powerful sense of smell.

Thanks to @k9nosetimeofficial for hosting a great day with some fun searches. And big thanks to the judges and of course all the wonderful volunteers who make it all happen.

We gave NW2 another go yesterday 😊 We had some awesome winnings and some learnings!

Our highlight was our exterior searches. We also got a partnership for these searches which was really special!

Really proud of how well he worked overall, in some challenging searches and in the afternoon when it was a lot warmer.

Thank you @k9nosetimeofficial for the day!

Dear instadiary,

This time last week I attended the inaugral Scentwork State Titles in NSW..and what a whirlwind few days it was with so many of our friends 💙🤍

I searched five times across ultimate, masters and excellent and came away with my excellent title (yes, for those playing along at home we FINALLY passed our final vehicles search) and even got judge's choice for it, a pass in masters interiors with a 3rd place (0.03 seconds after 2nd) and my interiors element title, and a pass in masters containers 🏅🥺

Mum also learnt a lot about how I search hides that are so high up they're inaccessible to me, so now we have something new to practice too 🙌

Hugely grateful to all the lovely people who made this weekend what it was, especially Team Underdog, and to everyone who cheered for us - you rock 😘

Thanks @zoomies.dog._ for the team bandanas and @bradshaw.photography.syd for the professional photos 👏

Yours,
Humphrey

✨NSW Scent Work State Titles✨

💫 2/4 passes in EV and EI
💫 1st time trialling in Masters (MX)
💫 across all searches we found 9/11 hides (missed a hide each in EC and MX)
💫 0 false alerts 😄
💫 Not on my bingo card: calling finish in EC after finding 2 hides (knowing we missed one) and started partying because he was very much done and was ready to get out 😆

We almost scrapped our entries, but following a visit with our rehab vet during the week we decided to let him have a go at his favourite activity ❤️ So proud of my #1 little guy who gave it what he had (even if he isn’t quite his usual energetic self at the moment 🥹❤️).

Dear instadiary,

We've been doing a lot of scentwork trialling over the last few weeks and we don't share every win on here but this deserves a permanent spot on the feed 👃

This weekend I tried Ultimate (the highest ANKC trialling level) for the first time. Think long (6-10 min) searches covering a large space with multiple elements and anywhere from 3-10 hides to find.

Friday I was off my game and we didn't get past the initial area, but yesterday I shook it off and searched so beautifully we not only passed, but also came first 🥇🎉 I found 6 hides including one on cars (my nemesis element), a buried hide and a tricky inaccessible, and mum trusted when I was done to call it after 6.5 minutes.

There were only 2 passes from 19 dogs, and it can take so long to score a pass this level, so this really means a lot to mum and the work we've put in as a team. Super grateful to @wsswclub for putting on the trial, Jo for setting a fun search (and learnt so much stewarding for her the week before..if you get to volunteer, do it!), Lesia at @k9nosetimeofficial for the drop ins, @rufusandatticus for the advice on getting better at vehicles, and all our amazing scentwork friends who practice with us and cheer us on at every trial 💕

Long post over. Now back to trying to pass excellent vehicles (but with a bit of renewed confidence) 🤣

Yours,
(A very tired) Humphrey

🎀 ORT TITLE 🎀

Yesterday we did our Anise odour recognition test for ACSW with @k9nosetimeofficial.

We tested our Anise at the beginning of this year and failed and then learnt in a trial recently that we weren’t really on Anise odour at all.

After reintroducing the odour and some practice at home, we recently smashed our anise trial.

Last night we passed the anise test which completed our full ORT Title (birch, clove, anise) 👏🏼

VERY proud of Evie given this was one of her most confident containers runs in a while!

Absolutely loving the rosette is our classic Evie scentwork colour, berry pink 💖

The sausage has done it again!! Such a fun morning with the @k9nosetimeofficial crew competing in the Level 2 Container trial. Bob completed 4 back to back searches so beautifully.
The previous day we also managed to get a leg in the L2E. And were 1 of only a few teams that called a high hide correctly!
I couldn’t be more proud of him!! 👏🏻💚🌭

The current Puppy Sniffers class is kicking goals! Every single team is amazing. We get to watch these puppies grow in confidence, develop skills and turn into little search addicts. It's the best! ❤️
