How do you test whether an AI agent can adapt over months, not minutes?

At Frontier Research Club #25 (Recursive Self-Improvement), co-hosted with @scale_gmi & @_theresidency , Shashwat Goel presented FutureSim. It replays months of real news past a model’s knowledge cutoff and checks whether the agent actually updates its forecasts as events happen.

GPT started behind Claude, then caught up by adapting. Claude opened strong and mostly plateaued.

Secret Bank Heist 9/3

People have asked me how I came up with Quest 35.

The truth is…

It wasn’t really about my birthday.

It started with this question:

What if a birthday party could leave people feeling more connected than when they arrived?

As we get older, I think many of us quietly stop doing things that once came so naturally.

Talking to strangers.

Playing.

Being a little silly.

Letting ourselves be surprised.

And yet, I believe some of life’s best moments begin with a simple, “Hi, I’m…”

I wondered what would happen if a birthday could become an invitation instead of just a celebration.

So I spent over 100 hours dreaming up tiny adventures.

Designing, printing, cutting, and stapling 120 passports.

35 side quests.

5 secret quests.

Conversation prompts.

Little reasons to walk up to someone you didn’t know yet.

Little moments of courage.

Little moments of play.

Little moments that might become the beginning of a friendship.

Somewhere between writing, designing, printing, cutting, stapling, and wondering whether any of this crazy idea would actually work…

Quest 35 slowly became real.

And then all of you brought it to life in ways I never could have imagined.

Watching friends from completely different chapters of my life laugh together, complete quests together, dance together, and leave with new friendships was the greatest birthday gift I could have received 🥰.

It reminded me that adults don’t stop needing play.

Or wonder.

Or belonging.

Sometimes we just need a little invitation.

A huge thank you to my mom @karmapictures for sitting beside me for hours helping cut and staple every passport 🥹🙏

And thank you to my dad @mthsieh2, @stonewrk, @electricceo, @ikwokyourworld, @artours, @glo.guide, @moniquetn, @tiffany.ty.c, Wayne and more for helping transform an empty venue into Quest 35.

I couldn’t have built this little world without you.

Perhaps that’s the biggest lesson Quest 35 gave me.

The moments that feel magical rarely happen by accident.

They’re created together 💕

At Frontier Research Club #10, over half of attendees had joined us before, a series record! 🤩

The room brought together researchers and builders from Apple, Meta, NVIDIA, Google, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Salesforce Research, Snowflake, Databricks, University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, and more — alongside founders building agentic systems and AI infrastructure, and investors from top tier Silicon Valley venture firms.

The room brought together the people advancing the research, the people building on it, and the people positioned to back it

Vignesh Baskaran shared the first public look at AIE-Bench and new SIA results. Mochamad Asri unpacked why data movement—not just FLOPs—shapes the economics of AI inference.

Code generation isn't the moat. Engineering is.

Last week, ~150 engineers, founders, and CTOs gathered at the SVB Experience Center for a panel on From Vibe Coding to Agentic Engineering, hosted by Frontier Syndicate with Silicon Valley Bank and Constructive.

41% of all code is now AI-generated. Over 90% of US devs use AI coding tools daily. The AI-native dev tools market crossed $4.7B in a year. So the question on the table was simple:

When anyone can generate software, what determines whether that software is actually worth running in production?

I had the chance to share the stage with two people working at very different layers of that problem:

— Sanjeev Dhanda, Sr. Staff Software Engineer at Google DeepMind, leading the shift toward agentic testing for Gemini. Co-author of the CI chapter in O'Reilly's *Software Engineering at Google.*

— Abhi Aiyer, Founder & CTO of Mastra, the leading open-source TypeScript agent framework, in production at Replit, PayPal, and Brex.

The conversation kept landing on one thing: trust.

My framing: software construction is being commoditized. Engineering is becoming the discipline of trust — defining what "correct" means, encoding it in systems, and enforcing it at the layers where guarantees matter (data, policy, tests). You don't vibe code the vault.

We're at capacity for the tonights session! Couldn't be more stoked to chat about building systems that agents and humans can converge on to build trusted code with Sanjeev Dhanda (DeepMind) and Abhi Aiyer (Mastra)!

Thanks Kristopher Floyd (Frontier Syndicate) and Joanna Zanghi (Silicon Valley Bank), and Acasia for co-hosting with @constructive_io 🚀

Had a successful first Constructive Build Night at AngelList’s Founders Cafe in SF.

We hosted this with Kristopher Floyd (Frontier Syndicate) and Irin Son from AngelList, who helped bring together an incredible group of AI and frontier tech builders. The energy in the room was real — people actually building, not just talking.

A few highlights from the night:

→ Preston Kwei demoed Persona — an autonomous agent that manages real-world email and calendar workflows. It goes straight at one of the hardest problems in agent UX: when should an agent act before the user asks, and how do you make sure it doesn’t get it wrong?

→ Réane Delaunoy and Vanya Cherepukhin, the Cultured Computer team, showed how they broke through voice evals to make AI:human interfaces feel more human and consistent — with identity that persists across LLM backends.

→ Tony Plasencia demoed MoonPay Agents — giving agents access to crypto on-ramps, virtual bank accounts, and prediction markets. What happens when agents start moving real money?

→ I closed with Constructive — a trust layer for AI-generated backends. We’re building secure-by-default Postgres infrastructure that enforces authorization the moment agents touch production data.

This is what’s becoming clear:

Agents are moving into real systems.

And when they do, trust can’t be optional — it has to be built into the foundation.

We’re just getting started.
