‘Awake’ [ @awake.shortfilm ]
•
I had always wanted to share my story with Hashimoto’s—hypothyroidism through a creative medium for the longest time. Now, having been able to be a part of this project where I can show the tribulations of disability affecting even the most valued thing in your life is an honor to tell. Dance has always been a lifelong passion & pursuit of mine even when my health disorder was fighting against it. I felt so alone & really only had my mom to confide in.

That is why it has been, & continues to be, an honor to play this role as I find it to be a dedication to all who have known an experience similar to this. I have incredible thanks to the film’s writer & director, Simone @degrimoire , for telling the story so beautifully & with honesty. Much of my performance I would think to myself “this is for Simone” before a take to extend the love & support I have for them along with all they continue to achieve. The connection Simone & I created through similar experiences broke the barrier of isolation for me—I am eternally thankful for that.

There’s so much gratitude & respect I have for the cast & crew—their hard work & dedication did not go unnoticed. Cheers to everyone & everything that words cannot fully express.

xx
