Extreme heat. High humidity. Previously unknown levels of sweatiness. Smelly pools of stagnant street water. Freaking FLIES BITING US NONSTOP. These are just some of the conditions our 43 volunteers braved at Wednesday eveningโ€™s Goose Island cleanup!! These people are badass grabber goblins, collecting a whole 79 bags of trash from this very neglected area. That included numerous 5 gallon buckets of Valvoline oil left behind by truckers, we assume ๐Ÿ™„. We reported all of the piles to the city for pickup, plus two mattresses, 4 tires, and some sort of rolled up rug. BLECH! By the end, we all felt exhausted, disgusting, and a bit unhinged after fighting off fly and mosquito attacks for 90 minutes (see photo lol). This cleanup was sponsored by our friends at @transportationone , and many of their employees volunteered. Afterward, some of us headed to Sullyโ€™s House for some food and drink, and it can be assumed that we all took a cold shower after that. Thanks to @kabesgotinsta for setting this up, and our captains Annette, Amman, and Brad for leading (and new captain Annie for shadowing). Additionally, because this area has such a history of problems with abandoned vehicles and semi trucks parking in No Parking Zones, Katie reported 4 abandoned vehicles via 311 and called in the trucks parked illegally. She also reported the water pooling on the street, which was growing algae, breeding mosquitos, and smelled TERRIBLE, and requested a street cleaning since the trash was clogging the grates under this pooling water. Just another day of solving city problems! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™Œ #chicago #chicagoevents #litter #cleanup #gooseisland
