Introducing the rare Cubist Amsterdam School furniture by Architect, furniture designer, and all-round creator Anton Hamaker (11 March 1889 – 20 January 1980).
Though his parents and teachers envisioned a future for him as a painter, his heart was drawn instead to the shaping of interiors, the crafting of furniture, and the applied arts—paths that would eventually lead him to architecture.
In 1916, he was appointed instructor in classical styles and in the arts of interior and furniture design at the Hendrick de Keyser School in Amsterdam. He relinquished this position when the growing demands of his commissions, together with his architectural training, began to claim more of his time than teaching would allow.
A newspaper article dated 8 March 1960, marking both his fiftieth anniversary as an architect and his golden wedding anniversary, notes that by then Hamaker had already brought more than four hundred designs into being.
