From graduate to working on set.

We’re incredibly proud to see recent BA (Hons) Hair & Make-Up for Screen & Film graduate Kaela Plaskow stepping into the industry, spending the past month working as Make-Up Trainee on the comedy horror Zac the Ripper.

Working alongside Hair & Make-Up Designer Kate Griffiths, Kaela has been gaining invaluable professional experience on set, assisting with the hair and make-up department and working directly with the cast throughout the production.

Seeing our graduates move from university productions into professional film sets is exactly what we want to celebrate. This is just the beginning for Kaela, and we can’t wait to see where she goes next. 🖤🎬

@zaktheripper Art Dept - 4 months in prep, 20 plus characters, costume choices, wardrobe continuity for story days, many labeled and gradually fraying bags, 5am urgent mendings of costume I thought I’d ruined 😬 7 locations across Sussex, rooms to dress, fairy lights to untangle every time…aims to dress each frame set by @disruptivmediabrighton with harmonising colours of costume and props 🫶🎨 huge lists of random things to buy, hedgehog and cage, missing doughnuts, making a box of £300 cash look like £5K, food and drink props to make, (and be edible for the cast) that lampshade cover I regret setting up for the first shot - a flowery skirt thrown over to look more like Zoe’s house…making a mess on day two and recreating it 3 weeks later… all of September with this hugely talented and hard working cast and crew and my second feature as an HOD, wrapped and ready for post!

I am so proud to have been a part in the making of what will be a truly brilliant, fun and radiant British comedy with true legends from the scene.

🎬 Written and directed by the amazingly talented @warren_dudley_filmmaker who, also being a designer has carried a huge amount of the art dept choices and sourcing. Loved getting the chance to collaborate with you!

Looking forward to its release next year 🫡📽️✨🫶

Thank you @iangreenlandphoto for the professional pics amongst these 🥰

“A makeup artist doesn’t hide beauty—they reveal confidence. This is what drives not only my artistic skill set but the way I communicate with every model in my chair” - Kaela

Finally posting about wrapping my beautiful grad film @wheredoesithurtfilm ❤️❤️❤️

Writing this film and producing it was such a beautiful experience. I love writing about topics I am passionate about and women’s health will always be top of the list. From struggling with my own health navigating endometriosis then being able to bring awareness and connect with other women through making this film was such a meaningful experience that I am so thankful for.

All of my thanks go to the women on this set who made it such a special place to be. I love you all! 🌟🦢
