What happens when we place Haitian women and spirituality at the center of the conversation about revolution?

This October, we’re happy to support the work of Graduate Student Elicie Edmond and we're gathering for “Vodou fait la force: Women, Haitian Spirituality, and the Incomplete Haitian Revolution.”

Together with our panelists Sabine Blaizin, Véronëque Ignace, Stephanie Pierre, and Mahalia Stines, we’ll explore the connections between Haitian spirituality, women, resistance, history, and the revolutionary legacy that continues to shape us.

📅 October 28, 2026
🕕 6–8 PM
📍 Room 101, 20 Cooper Sq, New York, NY

Presented in collaboration with the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) @cccadi and the Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies at NYU (CLACS) @clacs_nyu

Come be part of the conversation.

Cohort two of Studio KIN is here!

Eight ventures. Five cities. Nationwide. Every founder is place-based, culture-first, and rooted in their communities. Half nonprofits, half LLCs. One is in its first year. One is a Harlem institution at twenty-six. All of them are practitioners, entrepreneurs, and designers working in heritage, preservation, and what we like to call culture-first community development. The program begins on October 2 and we’re excited to introduce these incredible practitioners.

Meet them below 👇🏾

My sister Lulu transitioned over to the spirit realm in 2024 so when I heard that her picture surfaced at my friend Stephanie Pierre’s @kafougallery I had to check it out for myself!

My sister was deeply rooted in Vodou…so the fact that she was at the Bwa Kayiman ceremony at Prospect Park was no surprise! If you’ve ever heard of the Bwa Kayiman Vodoun ceremony that set the Haitian Revolution in motion I highly recommend looking it up and going to see the exhibit. The exhibition Dòmi, Leve, Jwenn is on display at Kafou Gallery until Sept 20th!

Shout out to my girl @hat5hep5ut for opening such and important space that educates and celebrates Haitian history and culture and its connection to all of us in the diaspora!
