An unforgettable evening was experienced by Spencer Magazine at the “Black Dreams and Aspirations” showcase in Toronto Union Station, a gathering illuminated by the profound narratives and artistic endeavors of the Black community. The event, elegantly hosted by @torontounion and generously supported by @td_canada, was a tapestry of conversations and visual stories from a dozen distinguished artists.

The art, resonating with the depth of dreaming in Black, granted us a window into the artists’ visions and realities, echoing their journeys and dreams.

Our sincere thanks to @dmpublic for extending this opportunity to us and for curating a space that magnificently honors Black heritage. The exhibition was more than a display; it was a celebration of the spirit and ambitions that propel our society.

Acknowledgment is due to @yyzevents for masterfully capturing the essence of the night 📸. Their lens didn’t just take pictures; it encapsulated a narrative we’ll treasure.

I’ve spent a lot of time struggling with the word ARTIST.

Somewhere along the way, I convinced myself that being a student, a corporate professional, or other title I was pursuing deserved more respect than simply saying, “I’m an artist.”

But I’m starting to understand that you don’t have to choose.

Whatever it is that calls to you... you’re allowed to lean into it.

These aren’t necessarily separate paths competing for space in our lives. They are extensions of the same person.

The engineer in me informs the way I build things. The musician in me informs the way I listen. The visual artist in me informs the way I see. The different parts of me feed each other, and together they make up a much more complete picture of who I am.

So if you feel that pull toward something creative, give yourself permission to fall in love with it and to claim the title.

Say you’re a musician. Say you're a dancer. Say you’re a filmmaker. Say you’re an artist.

And scream it from the top of a mountain if you have to. Allow all the parts of yourself to exist out loud.

And please, document your life. Yes, you...I'm talking you, all my cool ass friends... I know you have some dope shit you get up to, I WANNA SEE IT!!

Take the videos. Take the photos. Record the sessions. Film the rehearsals. Capture the weird little moments that feel insignificant at the time. Post them if you want to. Keep them if you don’t.

You never know who might connect with some obscure little corner of your perspective. Something that feels ordinary to you might be exactly what someone else needed to see.

Let the different parts of you shine and become the whole.

What can I say about glitter 2026? The event was fantastic ✨The attendees were fabulous ✨And the performers were out of this world! All for such a good cause like the new foundry that is going to be set up in Nanaimo. The Foundry will be there to support with mental and sexual health resources for our teens!

So incredibly grateful I was able to attend this great event and for everyone who came out and supported!
