What a fun day in Pacific Beach! Thanks to all the competitors and families who made today a great one! Only a few steps away from the six man madness on the south side of the pier, the @southbayboardriders and @spyderboards managed to throw a rousing surf contest on Saturday as part of the International Surf Festival. The Summer Surf Off lived up to its name, with near tropical water temps giving competitors a chance to compete in boardshorts and bikinis. We got a surprising pulse of swell that gave us consistent surf all day. The beach was mobbed, but thanks to the incredible work of @lacolifeguards, our comp zone was clear all day. 🙌 Lots more images in the gallery linked in my profile. Redondo and Mira Costa kept their unbeaten records untarnished in semi peaky shoulder high surf at Hermosa Pier. There were several double digit heat totals as the level of surfing continues to rise. Great job coaches, parents, and surfers. It was a wild day at at Comp #5 of the @southbayboardriders Surf Series, presented by @etsurfboards. Called the Nightmare on E.T. Surf Street, the event lived up to its name at times, with north wind gusts over 40mph wreaking havoc on the tents and the @blacklinelogo livestream gear. But eventually the winds shifted to the northeast, giving us fantastic offshore conditions for the afternoon finals. With many former season champs returning for the contest, competition was the best it has been all year. Full coverage in the large smugmug gallery linked in my bio.

It was a beautiful day at Torrance Beach for the latest event in the @southbayboardriders Surf Series -- contest #4, presented by @therivmex. After a week of rain, we didn’t mind early morning temps in the forties if it meant blue skies and glassy conditions for much of the day. The surf was small but fun. Lots and lots of images in the big gallery (link in my bio). SBBC Members can download the hi-res files for free with the download password.

Four years ago, the SBBC contest sponsored by @elportosurfshop established the bar for weather and swell perfection. This past Saturday, the local shop on Highland brought us the magic again. The sandbars were a little different this year, but the 80° temps and pumping surf made for another memorable day in the water and on the sand.
