Does anyone else struggle to explain what they do without immediately knowing that the person listening is imagining something entirely different?

When I tell people I make flowers from paper, I can almost see what they’re picturing. Simple shapes, cut petals, familiar colors. Something that resembles a flower, but is unmistakably paper.

And I understand why…. but what I actually do is something quite different. Every element of my paper botanicals is fabricated by hand. The color, texture, structure, movement, and all those tiny irregularities that make something feel alive. None of it exists until it is created.

I’ve started telling people I’m a sculptor instead…Somehow, that gets us a little closer….but really, it’s easier if I just show you.

A side note: These beautiful paper poppies found their new home at the Canopy Portland Waterfront Hotel this weekend!

I’m so happy to have them finally delivered and ready to bring a little botanical beauty into the rooms and brighten the stays of everyone who visits. There’s something especially lovely about knowing that something made by hand will become part of someone else’s experience of a place.

For this giveaway 2.5 RS, I wanted to create something that felt like more than you’re normal Subaru build… So, when it came to materials, @keystonbros has always been my go to partner to make a vision come to life!

I’m working on something a little different. Working on SOE right now and hope to share it soon. Nageire style of Ikebana. Ever since I went to Japan and worked with @hitomigilliam this past year, I have been fascinated by ikebana. I can understand why it takes a lifetime to master this art. I hope to do it justice.

Et billede starter altid her. Kaffe i koppen, for det meste kold fordi jeg har glemt den. Lærreds stof og min formidable stofsaks. Er stadig bange for at komme til at klippe i andet end stof, i ren forglemmelse - har klaret den indtil nu. @sennelier1887 olie pastellerne som jeg elsker at arbejde med og som har de fineste og reneste farver. Så slår jeg ellers hjernen fra og tegner præcis det min hånd vil. Sidst blev det en hval, hvad mon det bliver i dag?
