“The first one through the wall gets bloody” a quote from the movie Moneyball. It means the innovator(s) who challenge the status quo inevitably invites criticism, resistance and difficulty, buts it’s a necessary sacrifice for progress and change. This quote encompasses the past 18 years of my life…and the lives of so many others who believed from the beginning. Some went different directions along the way because they were called there, some opted out because they couldn’t handle getting bloody. But thankfully some bravely stayed the course. The second picture are 4 of the founding coaches. Not pictured are Lura Fleece and Jarnell Bonds from the University of Maryland. Colleen Kausrud (second from the right) left us much too soon - but I know she was jumping up and down in heaven on Friday when the vote was finalized. Acrobatics and Tumbling officially became the 93rd NCAA Championship Sport on Friday January 16, 2026. There is so much more to say, so many memories and stories to share - but for now here are some things that I learned along this journey: 1. A skeptic is your best friend when you are doing something new. (Thanks Gary Gray!) 2. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery OR the biggest indicator of fear. We actually started 2 NCAA sports. I said what I said!! And I will argue any of you down that say otherwise. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just means more opportunities! 3. Margaret Mead was not wrong “a small group of committed people CAN change the world!” The student-athletes are the real winners here and that was always our goal. I’m not done talking about it…get ready! 😊 More pictures and convos to come!
