My current 4am situation. Long post below:

I generally don't post stuff like this because it feels self-serving, like I'm trying to show off how "I'm a great dad" aka performative fatherhood. But as I'm evolving, I realize that I know my true intentions. I am not looking for a pat on the back from the Internet, so why do I hesitate to post stuff like this?

The answer I've gleaned in therapy and meditation is that we're taught "respectability", which means you can flirt with the line between cocky and confident ,but never go over it, or else people call you rude, arrogant, a b***h or a d**khead. But why do we care if our hearts are pure? Why do we concern ourselves with others who see our lives through their trauma-filled, or misguided lens?

Joseph Evans, our Masonic DDGM said something in his lecture on Monday that resonates with me about how having each kid is like being born again. You become a newer version of yourself. With Isai, I actively worked on my issues with depression and anxiety so that I could be better for him. I pushed myself to make uncomfortable life changes by leaving behind what was comfortable but no longer served me, like jobs, church denomination, etc, so that one day he could be confident in doing the same thing.

With Liyah, I'm starting to see the importance of being more vocal about fighting against respectability, especially since this world polices women, minorities, LGBT+, and tells us that we need to just be seen and not heard. To "never cross that line". To exist in spaces, but never challenge the space or the rules. I've fought this stuff on the low, but I am convicted to be more vocal about it.

If you're still reading this, you may say: "this n****a is bugging", "he must be sleep deprived", "I'll pray for him" or "that fraternity and Masonic stuff done gave that boy a demon"(you know that's always the go to for some people). There are others who will applaud this, and to be honest, that is the outcome I'd really like. Others won't really care.

But the current version of me doesn't give a damn if you applaud, critique, or don't care.

And that's fine.

I'm satisfied with what I wrote. And that's all that matters 🙂

My big sis had a whole itinerary planned for us while I was home so sweet! 🥹She just wanted to make sure I had a good time, and I definitely did! 👯‍♀️💕 She loves me‼️

So, we went to the Saratoga County Fair, and of course, I had to get some funnel cake! 😋 So tasty‼️ Honestly, that’s really why I love going to fairs! Lolz

The @theflyingwallendas show was definitely my favorite part! The tricks were mind-blowing! 🤯 Of course, the rides were a close second. And I’ve never seen horses that big in my life! They were absolutely beautiful! Maybe I’ll get brave enough to ride a horse again one day! 😂🐴🎡

For as long as I can remember, September 14th has been an "international holiday." I know other people share this birth date, but for me, it belonged to one person... my mom, the woman who gave me life!

This past Monday, she gained a birthday twin. The day that celebrates the woman who gave me life is now the day we welcome a new life of our own. One date, two profound blessings and Black Queens.

We present to you, the baby that's been cooking in the womb: Liyah Keturah Imara

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐬:

° To Yah, for the ultimate blessing.

° To @kakystaley , for doing the heavy lifting of carrying and delivering this blessing.

° To Isai, for being the proudest big bro lonnnnggg before she even arrived (he told everyone he encountered the past few months that he was having a baby sister...and I mean EVERYONE).

° To my Mom who was overly estatic to share her birthday with her granddaughter.

° To my Dad (may he rest in peace), who beautifully (and sneakily) co-created her name alongside Karazin...a story for another day!

° To the ancestors for providing us with the DNA and resilience that helped us create two little humans.

°And to our community, who supported us through every step of this journey. Thanks for the love and support

If God wills it upon you, please continue to stay in community with us as we progress these kids on their journey through destiny.
