KALE FOUNTAIN is a first baseman from Nebraska. The right hander was selected out of high school in the 5th round of the 2024 draft by the Padres. He received a $1.7 million bonus to forgo his commitment to LSU and begin his professional career.
The 20 year old had an impressive high school career, setting the Nebraska career records for home runs, RBIs and stolen bases while being the first athlete to garner 4 All Nebraska selections. The Padres #8 prospect has a 6’5 frame that generates big power and exit velocity with a long and level swing. He underwent Tommy John surgery after the draft which has limited the start of his professional career to just 65 games, where he’s struggled to find his footing only hitting 5 home runs between rookie ball and single A. Scouts worry about his swing and miss potential, although he kept his strikeouts to a manageable rate in 2025. Fountain has an above average arm but limited range on the infield which could keep him at first base, placing a higher premium on his offense and he progresses. The delay in Fountains career means there’s a lot of development left, and it could be a few seasons before he’s ready for a potential big league call up, but with his power potential and base Bowman 1st autos selling for less than $10, this is a good buy low opportunity for investors.
