POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

@kalkavya was so good in her sultry/slithering piece creating an entire backstory for Nagini from Harry Potter and really many stories that are told across cultures about animal/human metamorphosis. The song itself is such a banger too.

@imgedance is one of the only dance companies I follow. I found them back in like ...2019 during a @lincolncenter performance and I really liked the fusion of classical Indian dance with hip-hop and many other styles. Maybe I'm uncultured but it was the first time I had seen something like that.

Fast forward to 2024 and I got to photograph the student show case led by @ishitamili - the focus being around work in progress and not necessarily a finished piece. That's important. There's too much pressure to be perfect and spaces like this allow different things to be made - otherwise it's the most recent trend or a lot of mediocre - not pushing the envelope things.

Grateful for the opportunity (after a really long time) to build new work in @cdi_dance • workshopping #Mohabbat by @aroojaftab in residency, sharing with friends, family and invited guests on Sept 21 6:30pm at City University in Harlem.

It’s been a difficult few months for me personally but feeling hopeful after every rehearsal here.

The 45th Annual @batterydance Festival

"Clothesline is a century long dance story of cultural art, technological development, immigration, and generations of Karnataka women, told from the perspective of a sari who wants to go home.
In addition to exploring ideas of migration, homesickness, and inheritance, the piece is largely about laundry. We follow the sari as it is washed over and over again through the generations, first in the Kaveri river, then in a bucket, hung to dry on a Mysore terrace, then in an American washing machine – asking, How does culture fade with each wash?"

Manhattan Margazhi Vibes

Thank you for a SOLD OUT first event on one of the coldest days of the year. A room full of art lovers, people experiencing Indian classical art in a new way, and new bonds being formed.

Thank you to my partner in crime Jeevika (@jeevika.bhat) for conceptualizing this event with me. I’m so grateful to have found a kindred spirit like you.

Thank you to our incredible performers for bringing your artistry, your spirit, and your inquisitiveness as we try new things together.

Here’s to more Manhattan madness! We’re bringing Indian art directly to YOU!
