The ribbon is cut and our newest facility, The Don Berdahl Center for New Technology, is open!

The new pilot plant is named in honor of Dr. Don Berdahl, who retired as the company’s Chief Technical Officer in 2019. The new facility will support deeper collaboration with our customers to deliver on consumer demands for natural and sustainable foods and beverages.

The new 6,500 sq. ft. technology center is staffed with a variety of resident scientists and visiting product developers to explore and test groundbreaking opportunities in green technology, bio transformation and natural ingredient production. This unique facility also enables new product discovery, advanced application testing and process engineering advancements.

Cheers!

‘A Force for Good’ is one of Kalsec’s top six food trend predictions for 2021.

Globally, food and beverage product launches that include environmental and ethical claims grew by 7.7% in 2020. The Middle East saw the largest jump in product launches including the claim at 22%, with Latin America second with a 10% change from the previous year, according to Mintel.

We expect to see these numbers continue to increase drastically as environmental and ethical claims gain more traction in 2021.

One of our primary natural color sources for yellow hues is turmeric. 🟡

Turmeric is a rhizome or root-like structure of an herbaceous perennial plant in the ginger family. 🟡

Dried turmeric is commonly used in Indian cuisine, curry powders and mustards. 🥘

Comment your favorite food or beverage that contains #turmeric (or is yellow)!👇

Black carrot (daucus carota) has such a beautiful hue - before and after extraction. Black and purple carrots are root vegetables that provide stable anthocyanins to color food naturally. Black carrot hues are commonly used to naturally color applications like confectionery, fruit preparations, dairy, sauces and beverages.
