A big thank you to @thekingselab @kings.college #Cambridge for hosting me last night to talk about the history of female #entrepreneurship, drawing on my global economic history, #economica (an FT best book of 2025). It was an honour to meet everyone involved in the E-Lab, including so many inspiring female entrepreneurs, and to be welcomed and introduced by one of my brilliant former students, Rhys Williams. Hats off to @kamiarmohaddes, Hanniya Kamran & Sophie Harbour.

#economica is out now in paperback @headlinebooks and is currently available on kindle UK for a special price of 99p (for a limited time only).

Economist Kamiar Mohaddes (@cambridgeuniversity , Uma Ventures, E-Lab, The World Bank) raises a thought-provoking question about a scenario that may be closer than we think.

🎉 Congratulations to @kamiarmohaddes, Impact Award winner at the inaugural @cambridgeuniversity Climate and Nature Research Showcase 2026!

🏆 His research with the climaTRACES Lab challenges a familiar assumption: that climate change will spare cooler, wealthier countries, and that the financial risks are decades away. Policymakers are listening.

It’s been such a busy week! But moments like these remind me how incredible it is to live in London, with so many inspiring opportunities right on your doorstep.

I spent a fantastic evening with Cambridge University’s incubator programme, The Spark, learning about some truly exciting tech and science startups. It was inspiring to hear the founders’ ideas and see the innovation they’re bringing into the world.

Fingers crossed for all of them as they accelerate the future! 🚀

I am delighted to be moderating the next Dialogues for Post-Conflict Futures: “Conversations Shaping Sustainable Futures and Social Innovation in Conflict-Affected Regions” webinar at the @thekingselab, King’s College, Cambridge, @cambridgeuniversity, titled: “Rethinking Refugee Systems After Conflict”.

Alongside Mia Fulford (Graduate of King’s College, Cambridge and Coordinator of the @thekingselab), I will be in conversation with @nooralhaqnasimi.mbe, Founder and Director of the @acaa_london.

After fleeing Afghanistan in 1999, @nooralhaqnasimi.mbe went on to establish one of the UK’s leading refugee support charities. Together, we will explore his remarkable journey and discuss how innovation, community leadership, and advocacy can help build more just, inclusive, and sustainable futures for people affected by conflict. We will also discuss how the fall of Kabul reshaped @acaa_london’s work, the challenges of operating in a rapidly changing environment, and what meaningful impact looks like in refugee support today.

📅 Date: Monday, 15 June 2026
🕓 Time: 4:00–5:00 PM

The session will conclude with an audience Q&A, bringing together perspectives from @cambridgeuniversity students, academics, practitioners, and members of refugee and diaspora communities.
