10 years in London!!! when I moved I said I’d probably stay for 5 years and I’ve done double 🥲 I moved from Yorkshire on a national express coach with a free ticket I’d got as compensation due to a cancelled return coach from Glastonbury that summer!

a few pics to commemorate the last decade and also to document my rapid twink death hahah

met the loml on a random Tuesday night in May 2017! he messaged me out of the blue and said he’d just landed from a flight and did I fancy meeting in exactly 1 hour! I was in bed watching tv but thought “fuck it!” I stood on the street waiting for him and he approached me with his suitcases from the airport, flung them in his doorway and off we went for our date ☠️☠️

the day I moved to London I had a job interview that afternoon at Wonderland and got the job!!!! I thought I’d won the lottery!!! I turned up for my first day wearing dunagrees and an ellesse long sleeve rugby shirt and thought I was the absolute shit!!! I went to a dinner with millie Macintosh from made in Chelsea during my first few week and thought … this is it! this is london! I’ve made it!

was terrified to leave behind my home friends who have always been, and will always be, my bedrock — but they’ve had many trips to London by this point, even staying on the floors of some of my tiny London flats! thank GOD for a group chat that remained active pretty much all day, every day for the last decade!

went to a few international fashion weeks, even sat front row at Prada twice (lol) and just felt totally out of place the whole time tbh!! I was there with a suitcase full of ASOS basics writing terrible show reviews that no one read!!! but as you can see, I was feeling the fantasy 🥲 this pic appeared in Vogue and went viral on Russian Reddit 🫪 I screamed!

decided to make our own little print passion project! I actually got sacked from my job (a different one!) for this because the owner was concerned I’d made a competitor 🥲 we did two issues before the pandemic hit and never thought about it again hahah it was the first time I’d ever been sacked!!! I was mortified hahah

@matthewifield grew up in a musical environment on the North Shore of Sydney. “My parents played mostly jazz,” he says. Ifield’s great-uncle, Australian legend Frank Ifield, famously had The Beatles open for him. “He was based in England and known for yodelling… My mum plays piano, my dad plays the flute. Around Christmas they would play Michael Bublé the entire time. So I would always be listening to that. I always had his voice stuck in my head. That got me into doing covers of that style: Elvis Presley, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra.” He would cover songs by artists including Bruno Mars, Daniel Caesar – who he cites as a massive inspiration for his overall soundscape – and Michael Jackson. “I was trying to figure out what style I liked,” he says. Modern pop love songs with a jazzy smooth sophistication are how Ifield has developed his songwriting skills. Read the full story in Issue 28 of 10 Men Australia, out Wednesday.

Matthew Ifield is on set in Paris, thinking about what makes a great love song. It’s only right in the city of love. “I think a perfect love song is about human connection,” Ifield tells Music Editor @roxylola. “It needs to be deep. That’s what people relate to, that’s what feels so personal.” Since 2020, the Australian-Malaysian singer-songwriter has steadily taken over the internet with his jazz-inspired modern pop, producing one of the country’s most impressive voices. With a debut album, My Favourite Place To Be, released last year and a new project on the way, Ifield has one of the most compelling voices of a new generation.

Australian actress @lily_sullivan’s first ‘proper’ role was at 17 when she landed the part of Coral Moochmore in Mental in 2012, alongside Toni Collette, Anthony LaPaglia and Liev Schreiber. “It was trial by fire and working with such different actors taught me straight away that there’s no right or wrong way to approach the craft. You get very good, very quickly at eradicating shame and embarrassment. Mental pushed me into that world and into working with P.J. “I’ve had the most nomadic two years of my life, which I don’t think I’ll have again, where it’s just me and my suitcase,” Lily tells @alison_veness. Two years ago, the Australian actress Lily Sullivan sold all her belongings and stripped everything back in her life. “It’s got to be done at some point. There is a shock factor about it,” she says. “For me, it was forced through a break-up and massive change. STORY TIME:
Did I ever plan or even think about becoming a freelance manicurist???
Honestly...NO. Simply because I didn't even know that something like this existed 😅

Eight years ago, I was working in a nail salon in London when I received a phone call that introduced me to a world I didn't even know existed 💅🏻📸
At the time, I had never worked on set. I didn't know what a call sheet was, what to pack, or what would be expected of me 🫣

But I said YES!!!!

The shoot had already been going on for a quite some time before I arrived at the studio, I knew there wouldn't be enough time to do a full manicure, but the nails still needed to look very polished.
Despite the time pressure I had to choose something fresh, light but visible at the same time that would work with all looks.
With the stylist we decided to go for Essie pastel colour with a quick Swarovski crystal design.

That first editorial unexpectedly became my first magazine cover, featuring the beautiful Gizele Oliveira, who walked the @victoriassecret Fashion Show in 2017 & 2018.

I walked into the studio thinking that I loved working in a salon, but by the end of the day, I already knew where I truly belonged.

I fell in love not only with doing nails on set, but with the entire creative process - photography, fashion, the moodboards, the creative energy on set, and the incredibly talented people behind every image.

Looking back today, I'm especially grateful to Adrian, who thought of me that day when the shoot was already in progress...but he still called to ask if I could step in and do the nails 🫰🏻
One unexpected phone call opened the door to a world I knew nothing about !!!
