🧿Happy Birthday to the one with the golden heart. The one who spoils us with love, wrapped in many forms…food, gifts, phone calls, texts (only because it’s MY preferred method of communication;)
May all your dreams and wishes come true! We love you so so much😘😘🧿
@kanchanm78 ps: I just had to….on the audio 😂😂😂

CHRISTMAS 2024: Home, with my nearest and dearest. Last-minute everything, including surprise arrival of bestie from the Caribbean and cousin from Hong Kong, bringing in my birthday with my oldest friends after god-knows-how-many years, gift shopping for the kids, last-minute brunch that lasted until 7pm (thank you @magazinestkitchen @gauridevidayal for coming to my rescue), plus last-minute tree 🌲 decorating. And thank you to my sister, mom, niece, Prat and Jeej for getting it all together. (Didi, we don't call you lastminute.com for nothing!) There is just no place like home. Happy holidays to you and your loved ones.

In the week gone by, 22 years ago, a film so dear to me released. If you told me then that the next time I’d visit the beautiful places in Ooty where we shot Sur, would be 22 years later while researching another story, I wouldn’t have believed it. Storytelling is a kind of mystery though and I shouldn’t be surprised.

I thought of you so much @poojab1972 @kanchanm78 and @marijkedesouza and the one you bullied, @mona_merchant_ - it was for you all that I got pictures taken of me on the steps of the Lovedale church where ‘Ave Maria’ in Marijke’s lovely voice was shot, and pictures of me trying to capture the utterly gorgeous @lightandlifeacademy with its red brick walls, within whose every nook and corner we shot scenes. (It was closed and I didn’t have permission to visit or else I’d have surely photographed the steps up which a haunting voice singing ‘Aa Bhi Ja’ drew an envious teacher to the classroom in which his student sat with her violin.)

I remembered you @mmkeeravaani and the joy of making music with you. I remembered Nida Fazli saheb who wrote our lyrics. I remembered @vibhasingh15 for the heartfelt dialogues and I remembered @officialluckyali @gauri.karnik @divyadutta25 @realsimonesingh and our bunch of enthusiastic, sweet actors. I remembered @boscomartis and his untiring team who choreographed our songs. I was thankful to @pritishnandycommunications who funded us.

I receive messages of love for the film to this day. If that isn’t some kind of profound life-affirming mystery, what is.

AND FINALLY, THE SUN CAME OUT: Apologies to St Thomas, St John and St Croix, the US Virgin Islands, for bringing with me London's grey skies and pouring rain this week. Still a fun week, discovering local beer and rum 🍹, eating fresh fish at local spots like Fish Bar and Gladys cafe, and shopping for jewellery (tax free!) at @edenjewelersusvi and gorgeous linens at @mr.tableclothst.thomas - But this morning (just before I boarded my flight back, obviously!) the sun came out and the sky and sea instantly turned that glorious Caribbean blue, the sand golden in the light, and soft and squishy under my feet. Priceless. Thank you to my dear friend Kanchan, her family and friends for being so hospitable and never letting the weather get me down (and for feeding me chilly cheese dosas!). Beach photos from Hull Bay in St Thomas; those beautiful fans are at the Ritz-Carlton, which is lovely. The Westin is newer and buzzing, but on the other side of the island. How blessed we are to have places like these and mornings like this! #virginislands #stt #stthomas #stthomasusvi #caribbeantravel
