Why did I compete in the BJJ tournament?

Tbh there’s no actual reason besides being spontaneous and getting out of my comfort zone. I wrestled in high school and did non gi jiu jitsu for years but eventually fell off and let life, life. I gained weight recently due to various reasons; getting out of the military, recovering from shoulder surgery, becoming a new dad, eating good food, etc. I used this tournament as a weight loss goal. At the start I was 216 lbs. prior to the tourney I cut to 193 lbs and cut 23 lbs. I was in a rut and didn’t want to turn into a fat and lazy dad. My main goal lately has been joining a jiu jitsu gym to officially start the Gi journey, but with a busy schedule I decided to compete until I find time in my schedule to actively go. Ultimately, I competed so that I can hopefully push my daughter in the future to get into BJJ and she’d have sick throwback pics to post when she’s on the podium getting gold.

S/o to wifey for supporting all my random endeavors.

And lastly, since I had no place competing in a blue belt gi tournament, I decided to turn this into a fundraiser. Raised money and donated $440 to @radaidinternational . If you follow me via TikTok then you’re well aware of what I try to bring to the Radiology community. RADAID helps provide radiology services around the world. So a special thank you to the brands and people that donated for a great cause. @eminentenergy @kandobakery @inspiremedia.sd @worktohard.std @ajlag_ @letsgeronimoo @radxdept #notthenurse #bjj #jiujitsu #wrestling #weightlossstory
