POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Last month, I had the honor of hosting a group discussion with three powerful voices about a topic that means so much to me: Black maternal health. Today, I got to share some of what came out of that conversation, and what we hope to see change moving forward. This is exactly why I built my platform, Crowned and Consistent: because health and wellness for Black women can’t be an afterthought, it has to be a consistent priority, not just a conversation we have once and move on from. Grateful for every voice that showed up to help push this forward. 💛

Thank you Dr. Green, Abby, and Taylor for your vulnerability to share your story.

It’s Friday which means we get to introduce you to another fabulous First Year! Meet Kanicia Green, MD:

📍 Hometown: Springfield, Illinois
🎓 Undergrad: Howard University
🥼 Med School: Southern Illinois University School of Medicine
🥑 Favorite candy or snack: Peanut M&Ms or anything with an avacado in it
🔬 Research Interests: Medical Education, Black Maternal Health Disparities
🍽️ Favorite place to eat: Ghana! But when I’m on this side of the sea I can settle for Chic-Fil-A
🎤 Hidden Talent/Something you are proud of: There’s a 9/10 chance I know all of the words to whatever song is playing at any given time. Annoying to others, but a talent nonetheless.
🐾 Why Cincy OBGYN: My top priorities were finding a program that would provide the best possible training so I would be prepared for anything post-residency, a diverse patient population, and a commitment to resident wellness. UC hit the mark on each point. Additionally, I’m extremely passionate about addressing the Black Maternal Morbidity and Mortality disparities. I wanted a program not only committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion as a whole, but had specific initiatives to address this Black maternal health crisis. It was ultimately programs that UC partners with like Cradle Cincinnati and Queen’s Village that stole my heart. Lastly, and most importantly, the vibes were right. I felt that everyone I met on interview day was authentic and never put on a show which I appreciate a ton.
🎶 Hobbies: Zumba, Karaoke, really anything music or dance related!

So grateful for the opportunity to attend the AAMC RISE - Developing Future Leaders in Medicine conference! Learned important skills, made new friends, and most importantly got tips on how to make the best hospital mocktail👌🏻 Seriously, the weekend left me feeling so empowered & lucky to be headed off to residency at the same time as these exceptional humans😊
