Today is a mix of emotion.

It would have been my dad's 83rd birthday. He died four years ago after a brave battle with the rare neurological disease Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Happy Heavenly Birthday, Pops!

It is the First Bookaversary of "A Bigfoot Homecoming," a labor of love inspired by stories my dad shared about his childhood, including a face-to-face encounter with Bigfoot.

I think he also inspired my overall storytelling and zest for life.

My dad loved to eat (which is why the character based on him eats A LOT), and he especially loved dessert. As he got older, ice cream started to have negative effects on him.

Late one night, he said he wanted a Dairy Queen. I reminded him that ice cream didn't agree with him that late at night.

He said: Oh, no. Dairy Queen is soft serve. It's not ice cream. I can have it.

So we did.

On one of our last trips, we stopped to fill up the van and there was a Foster's Freeze in the gas station. The van and dad left full.

I may need to get a soft-serve cone today.

Here's my review:

This debut mystery delivers a one-two punch with its fast-paced plot and characters that make you sit up and take notice. With strong characters, a great setting, and humor to round the book out, a mystery still needs well-plotted clues with compelling suspects. Have no doubt, the author delivers it all and more. The terrific start to this first book in the series has me eagerly waiting for a ringside seat to the next book!

Jane Austen fans, like me, can rejoice! There’s an upcoming sequel to one of her books. I want to share the gorgeous new cover for my historical fiction author friend Nancy Bilyeau’s gothic regency fiction The Heiress of Northanger Abbey! The cover is by Karen Ann Phillips of Phillips Covers.

From the bestselling author of The Blue comes a sequel to Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey. Twenty-two years later, Catherine Tilney’s happy life is shattered when her daughter, Phoebe, falls under the influence of the unscrupulous Thorpe family. To protect Phoebe from dangerous fortune hunters, Catherine follows her to an isolated Dartmoor manor. Amidst family secrets and a chillingly familiar Gothic atmosphere, Catherine must separate imagination from reality and learn to trust her powers of perception before it’s too late.

For Austen fans who adore a high-spirited Regency tale, savor a hint of the Gothic—and long to be transported to the mist-shrouded moors.

📚Nancy’s book publishes on September 1, 2026, but pre-orders are now possible and the ebook is less during this time. Paperbacks will come later on.

“Prepare to be captivated by this brilliant homage to the Gothic genre that will thrill Austen fans and lovers of historical fiction alike. Impossible to put down!” — Syrie James, bestselling author of The Missing Manuscript of Jane Austen and The Mysteries of Pendowar Hall

“Twenty years after the events of Northanger Abbey, one of Jane Austen’s most gentle and warm-hearted heroines sets out to protect her daughter from the very real dangers of being an heiress. The result is a sparkling tribute to Gothic stories, replete with moors, ruined castles, vampyre stories and forbidden romance. Insightful and charming, this is a novel of which Miss Austen would surely approve.” —Susan Breen, award-winning author of Merry

📚Pre-order now from places like Bookshop.org, Amazon, B&N, Apple, and other online places. Check my stories for 24 hours for a link to it or go my website anytime and find all the info there.

Gorgeous, sunny day to meet up with thousands of people and so patriotic to be at one of hundreds of gatherings across the Nation the year of its 250th Birthday.

What could be more patriotic than standing up for your country? Two truths can exist at the same time- you can have respect for the Office of the President and not agree with the current person voted into office!

I live Sacramento protest rallies - it’s always such a respectable, peaceful, “love-in” with like minded people of all variety- even fur babies! I also personally thanked all our police/sheriff officers for being there to keep us safe.

Received lots of positive comments on my “Hate never made America great” sign. Here are some of the other winners. #peacefulprotest #nokings #indivisible #notpaidtoprotest #ilovetheusa

Our book club took a field trip to our local independent bookstore yesterday. Loved meeting another local author @kannphillips there for her latest mystery book launch! And found these three fun children’s books and posed for a photo! 😉

Does your book club ever take a field trip or outing? If not, highly recommend it!
