Tend published @iv___studio is a 1-6 player game according to BGG. However, @dicetowerwest we were able to play it with 12! 😮. It scales up amazingly well.

This game is fantastic🔥. In Tend you can farm, raise livestock, fish, chop trees, mine for minerals and upgrade your tools. All resources you collect are tracked on your paper player board with markers. You can also give them to your neighbors to earn bonuses.

My favorite part is the scratch-off cards for the chopping and mining actions.

The more I play it the more I appreciate how brilliant it is.

Have you played Tend?

The Silicon Canvas: Beyond the Binary of AI in Tabletop Games

The board game industry is currently locked in a cultural cold war. On one side stands the Analog Purist movement, viewing any use of generative AI as a breach of the social contract. On the other sits the Automation Disruptor, looking to slash costs by replacing human labor with algorithmic output.

However, as we move through 2026, a more sophisticated—and misunderstood—middle ground has emerged: High-Agency Augmentation. This is the realm of the creator who uses technical mastery to extend, rather than replace, the human hand.

1. The Historical Mirror: The “Death of Art” in 1900
The current outrage against AI art echoes a familiar historical rhythm: the mid-19th-century reaction to the camera.

When photography first emerged, the art establishment was aghast. Painters claimed that because a machine was “doing the work” of capturing light, the result could not be art. It was seen as a soulless, mechanical “shortcut” for those who lacked the skill to wield a brush. For decades, “real art” was strictly defined as manual labor—analog paint on canvas.

Eventually, the debate shifted. We realized that a camera is not an artist; it is a tool that requires a human eye for composition, lighting, and intent. The “art” migrated from the physical movement of the hand to the intellectual agency of the creator.

We are currently in the “pre-acceptance” phase of AI, where the tool is being blamed for the laziness of its most visible users.

2. The Modern Inquisitors: The Rise of the AI Witch Hunter

Because the market is flooded with low-effort “prompt-and-print” content, the community has developed a defensive reflex: the AI Witch Hunt.

Driven by a desire to protect human artists, “detection squads” scan projects for the tell-tale signs of the machine: a misplaced finger or a “plastic” sheen.

This is a Polaroid emulsion lift transferred onto paper, created using a rendered image made in Blender and displayed on a computer screen, then digitized with a Ricoh camera.

What do you think about this setup? The rules are same, but when you select a new piece to bring it to play, you reveal a new piece of your opponents piece. It gives a new twist for the game.

#Cirquarles is a free print and play 2 players abstract strategy game. Check the bgg page of the game for downloadable contents. See link in bio.

The third way to win in #cirquarles check my previous posts to other 2.

Orange to play and win. Swipe for solution.

Cirquarles is a free 2 players abstract strategy game see bgg page of the game for printable files. Rink in bio.

In Cirquarles players try to place 4 pieces with matching properties in a line.

Components
24 pieces (2 identical sets of 12 unique pieces in white and black colors)
1 game board
Setup
Each player receives 12 unique pieces of one color and arranges them in 4 stacks on own side, close to the game board.

How to play
Players alternate turns starting with the player who controls the white pieces.

Type of pieces
Each unique piece is cut out in the middle and defined by three different properties affecting the gameplay:
piece size: small, medium or large
interior shape of a piece: square or circle
exterior shape of a piece: square or circle
Players actions
During player’s turn player may perform one of 2 actions:
place a new piece on the board, or
move a piece on the board to a new field (Players cannot remove pieces from the board once they have been deployed)
Pieces movement
A player may only move pieces of own color. Player is allowed to only take and move the exterior piece of the stack. Even if other pieces are placed inside. Pieces surrounded by the opponent's one cannot be moved. They are blocked at the moment.

Players can place their pieces:
to any empty field on the gameboard
inside/outside of the other pieces (own or opponent’s), if it can be placed without collision.
If a piece cannot be placed without collision on a field, then player cannot place it there.

Game End
A player wins the game immediately after placing 4 pieces with matching properties in a line (horizontal, vertical, oblique)

Since it looks like my game Doom's Peak: Curses and Calamities is going to become a reality in late 2025, and since my following at Kaptiv8games has grown much faster than expected (thank you!!), I've decided to gradually shift my board game reviews from Kaptiv8games to my new Instagram account boardgame_crunch.

Boardgame_crunch will be dedicated to game reviews and Kaptiv8games will focus more on my new game (and hopefully future games).

If you've enjoyed my reviews I hope you will also follow me here. Also, if you have any suggestions on how I can improve my reviews, and/or if there is a particular game you want me to review please let me know! I attend 13-14 game cons per year and buy a lot of games so chances are good I might have experience with the game you have in mind.

Thank you again for following my game reviews, it's really appreciated!

I hope you have a happy and blessed New Year!
