As the world clamours by us, groaning, laughing, honking, tweeting, swearing, weeping, singing, it is easy to miss the Voice calling out of every bush, bloom and stone: “I Am Who I Am” It is easy to forget that the history of our faith is built upon burning bushes, and upon the back of The Crucified Nazarene. It is easy to forget, in that blissful moment of tangy sweetness, that our faith is built upon the back of the One who made the humble, yet glorious, blackberry. All the beauty this world has to offer is best enjoyed joined in worship to the Giver (of blackberries that burst on the tongue). Let’s cultivate awareness of the sacred all around us. . . . Oh Lord, open the eyes of our heart. Let us not mistake the gift for the Giver. Help us to drop the blackberries, and take off our shoes. You Are Who You Are. Amen. . . . P.S. We really love blackberries. . . . But isn’t this just another form of nationalism? Of a creeping Canadian Nationalism? How does this contrast with Jesus’ commands to love our neighbours and enemies?
