A very action packed day 2 at the Dandenong Ranges Literary Festival! We had a total of 8 sessions today and they were all very entertaining. From the stories, life experiences and advice shared by our panelists the audience was hooked. We have our last and final day for the 2026 festival. If you enjoyed yesterday, (and you’re around the Belgrave area) why not attend some more sessions today. Find tickets here: https://dandyrangeslitfest.net/tickets/ or via the link in bio. #dandenongrangesliteraryfestival2026 #day2 #belgrave #literaryfestival

What a day it was yesterday at the @dandyrangeslitfest A full day of panels, amazing discussions, wonderful authors, and book lovers I had such a great time listening to authors speak about what makes a great read, Aussie crime, women in books, and speculative fiction…. and to top it all off…. THE Sally Hepworth in discussion with THE Kerryn Mayne. Who could ever forget Sally’s delight in reading out some of the one star reviews for her books that Kerryn has found on Goodreads! 🤣 Loved catching up with @bmichie31 and Denise, @the.brooke.library (thanks for saving us seats), and @fionataylorwriter and her parents and #bestliteraryhusband Can’t wait for next year’s event. #fhclibrary #dandyrangeslitfest #bookevent #bookcommunity

📚🧡 Happy Love Your Bookshop Day! This year’s theme is Ask a bookseller – shake up your shelf. We’re all used to algorithms recommending what to read next, based on what we’ve already liked, clicked on or bought. But what if your next favourite book is something you’d never have found on your own? Booksellers know the books they stock. They know the stories, the voices and the perspectives that might surprise you, challenge you or help you see something in a new way. At DCP Hub, we carefully select books that help donor conceived people and their families explore donor conception, identity, family and belonging. Every title has been chosen for a reason, and we love helping people find the right book for their family or their own story. 💚 So today, step away from the algorithm. Ask a bookseller for a recommendation. Discover a new author, explore a different perspective and shake up your shelf! Check out our bookshop at www.dcphub.com.au/book-shop 📖 What’s a book you’d never have discovered without a recommendation? Tell us in the comments! #LoveYourBookshopDay #DonorConceived #DonorConception #donorconceptionbooks #donorconceivedstories #BooksThatMatter

It was a beautiful day in Melbourne today, so I did the obvious thing…. I went to a book launch 🥳 Amy Kaufman and Will Kostakis provided all the entertainment at Readings Kids as they discussed Will’s new book, Otis Ottley and the School In The Sky Will is a master storyteller, both in person and in his books so it was an absolute pleasure to listen to him speak twice in two days. It was great to also see @karen__comer and catch up with @_robyndennison_ again. #fhclibrary #schoollibrary #booklaunch #bookevent #willkostakis

What a pleasure it has been to have had so many wonderful authors visit us over winter. Thank you for visiting our shop, making our day, and leaving signed copies of your books for our bookish community to enjoy. Swipe to see all their gorgeous faces. First up, Mary Trumble and Henry Fried @backyardhoney - authors of Honeybees: The Wonders of the Hive and How to Help Them Thrive. Mary and Henry, passionate beekeepers, left behind their established careers to pursue a life devoted to honeybees and the vital role they play in our ecosystems. 🐝 What began as a risk, turned into a deeply rewarding journey. These two wonderful humans are truly making a difference to ecosystems and our world. 🌍 Calling all chocolate lovers 🍫 @kirstentibballs is the author of Chocolate All Day: recipes for indulgence - morning, noon and night. Because why shouldn’t we enjoy chocolate for breakfast?! YOLO. Empowering children through her books, My Body My Brain & My Body My Rules, @nickieslergill introduces young readers to positive body boundaries, consent, and individual unique qualities. Essential additions to any family bookshelf and early learning centre. Frogsong is a tender and delicate tale of love and addiction from @lissmanning - winner of the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for her debut book and one of Australia’s brighter literary talents. Our graphic novel workshops for kids were such a hit, we had to add an extra one. @andrea_innocent is the author and illustrator of Lamington Left Behind, and Andrea sure left behind a remarkable impression on these groups of budding young novelists! Book Week peaked at Verso when @andygbooks visited. The Treehouse series and newest You & Me series are constant favourites amongst young readers, filled with laugh-out-loud moments, toilet humour, dad jokes and adventures. Electrifying crime-thriller author surprised us with a visit to Verso. His 2026 book, The Gambler, is on our shelves now. And stay tuned for his next page-turner, The Good Soon, coming in early 2027. It was wonderful to be joined by @karen__comer at our latest Educators Evening. Her verse novels, Grace Notes & Once Upon Tomorrow are written for young adults

Another @sketchandscribefest highlight was @karen__comer discussing “The Music of Prose”. Hearing her discuss writing techniques I hadn’t considered and sharing parts of her creative process was truly illuminating. I’m grateful she allowed me to look through her creative notebook and gain insights into how she documents ideas and processes characters, plot and connections.

The second @sketchandscribefest for was even better than its first. 🙌🔥 If you’re an aspiring or established author or illustrator of children’s books, don’t miss out next year on having your head blown off! 🎆 📌 Save this post and send it to yourself and your writer/illustrator friends so you don’t have FOMO. 😅 Publisher panels generously spilled the beans on What’s Hot in publishing and Books That Hit the Sweet Spot @danivee_wordsandnerds @larrikinhouse @simonschusterau @tash_besliev @affirmpress @littlebookpress @hardiegrantkids @allenandunwin @walkerbooksaus @wombat_books @rhizaedge Fabulous guest speakers enlightened us about 🌟Building a Creative Career - Rochelle Stephens @wombat_books 🌟The Music of Prose @karen__comer 🌟 Mentorships- @ericawagnerstudio 🌟And an enlightening panel about Collaboration @suelawsonauthor Auntie Faye Muir, @michelleconn_illustration @clairesaxbyauthor @eve_tonelli (@walkerbooksaus) The ocean at Jan Juc is a pivotal part of this festival, and even graced us with dolphins 🐬 AND a rainbow! 🌈 Do you know how refreshing it is to be able to step outside into the salty air? Many interstate participants made a mini-break of it, with their families enjoying a beach weekend. ❓Were you thinking of coming but didn’t get around to it❓ ❓Or if you’re an overseas follower, what’s your favourite children’s literature festival❓ A huge congratulations to @stefgemmill and team for sprinkling your fairy dust to create a warm and welcoming vibe where magic connections happened all day. My heart is full. 💓💓💓 . . . #childrensliterature #writingfestival #childrensillustrators #kidlitcommunity #janjucbeach
