Final week to catch ENGLAND’S DREAMING (ending April 12th).
Hoang Beli Gallery is delighted to present England’s Dreaming, a group exhibition
curated by Karen Tronel with works by Orlando Campbell, Kate McCrickard and
Rupert Shrive, three British artists who live and work in France.

It is almost fifty years since an influential British band proclaimed ‘There is no
future and England’s dreaming’ (God Save the Queen by The Sex Pistols, recorded 1976), a line that holds new significance in the context of Britain’s separation from Europe and the singular position it now navigates in a
fast-changing geopolitical context.

The artists in this exhibition did not leave Europe, they left England, and did so
many years ago. They are, however, no less impacted by the impractical
hindrances that affect cultural and commercial relations with the UK, and are also
left questioning Britain’s future, from the other side.

Dreaming may imply escape, inspiration, reminiscence, and nostalgia; it can also
suggest wishful thinking and critical delusion. Combining a number of these
tropes, the artists draw on early musical influences and meaningful British
references in their works to reflect their particular individual perspectives, each
evolved through the lens of temporal and geographical distance.
