I honestly can’t wait to marry my beautiful baby, my joy and peace. I see us in the kitchen pounding yam like mortar and pestle, then outside spending pounds together.

Life with you just feels right. More of God’s love, direction and purpose. Remember, United together, we’ll always override the gunners!

“The girl I am, the change I lead.”
This year’s International Day of the Girl reminds us that girls are not waiting for change they are the change.

At @renomaholistichealth and @theflowfreelyproject, we joined forces with @afayhealth, @ladunbalogun to empower girls through education on menstrual health, emotional wellness, and healing because understanding their bodies and emotions is the first step to leading their lives with confidence.

The girls had questions honest, curious, and brave ones and together, we shared insights that helped them see their periods and emotions not as barriers, but as part of their strength. Through open conversations and practical healing sessions, we taught them to listen to their bodies, manage their emotions, and embrace self-awareness as a form of leadership.

Copies of The Flow Freely book were shared with the girls and donated to their school library, alongside sanitary supplies for the girls & their school’s period bank helping ensure no girl is left behind because of her cycle.

When a girl understands herself-body, mind, and emotions she becomes unstoppable.

Here’s to every girl leading change, starting with herself. 💚

Dear young nurse,

The first and most important thing I want to share with you today is this, you have a license to protect! If you intend to practice nursing for a long time, you must keep in mind that you have a license to protect because your license is your power as a nurse. Do not engage in any fraudulent activity (either by choice or by ignorance) that can cost you your license.

When you are in doubt ask yourself, “does this harm my patient in any way?”, “does this tarnish the image of the hospital or team”,” can I announce this to the team proudly once I am done”. I put it to you that some terrible news that we hear of some nurses in the media will not be heard of if they consider these things.
If your colleague is doing something wrong call their attention to it assuming that they are oblivious to the fact and if they continue, call the attention of the senior nurses to it. Even as a bystander in the same shift, you can be implicated. Don’t loose your license due to ignorance or misplaced loyalty.

The second thing I will share with you is be confident in the theory you do know. Contrary to what some seniors will tell you, the theory of nursing is not far from the practice of nursing if you choose to make it so. I know there is a gap that must be bridged between the necessary tools you need to perform your duties and the tools most hospitals in the country provide you with but they call us master improvisers for good reason. Put your thinking cap on and use those critical thinking skills you developed in nursing school to make the most of what you have available. These skills will save you time, energy and they will protect you on the long run

In the coming weeks I will share even more with you but for now let this stay with you.

Happy new year once again my professional colleague, lets change the face of nursing on our side of the world together with wits and commendable professionalism.

Your partner in care,
Star Nurse.

Find your tribe and serve

This is for my introverted and initially shy nurse, I see you.

You know how in school you had friends that helped you get through? Those friends you studied with, got inspired by, prayed with or even just course-mates you got study notes from and attended lectures with in school. You would agree with me that without those people, nursing school would’ve been harder than you had it. It’s a principle of life that we can’t do life isolated, we’re created to be dependent on each other as human beings and this same principle will help you go far in your career as a nurse.

You don’t have to be chatty with everyone but learn to find the key people in every shift that you can serve. It’s an investment that will yield lots of results for you on the long run. The same person might not be the one paying back your kind act but one day you will need help and someone that has seen you serve others will step in and serve you. Do something kind for the janitor, help the security guards out once in a while, greet them if that’s all you can think of, make life easier for the other nurses by cleaning up after yourself in the treatment room, be respectful to the lab scientist. You’ll be surprised how these little things can mean a lot when push comes to shove.

You don’t want to be stuck with an aggressive patient on a night shift and there’s no one who can help you out. You don’t want to be stuck in a dilemma that requires someone else’s favor without help. This is Nigeria, these things happen.

Dear young nurse,

Welcome to a new year of possibilities for both you and me. As a young nurse myself with no one holding my hands before this point I would like to share some value with you as we journey through 2025 together.

In my four years of experience as a volunteer, graduate and registered nurse, I have made some mistakes and learnt some lessons that I think will be helpful for you as you move from being a student or fresh graduate to being a licensed practicing nurse. If you are currently doing your internship in Nigeria, I already know you are feeling like fish out of water left to fend for itself. Point to you if your school did a good job training you in the skills room, bonus point for you if you actually took those trainings seriously for your own sake because now YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN (or at least that is how you will feel when the nurses on duty leave you to manage the ward). In retrospect, I can see some gaps in my nursing that I could’ve handled better if I knew then what I know now. So, follow me because here goes value.

Your partner in care,
Star Nurse.
