presenting the solo exhibition, titled Double Moon, by Karin Lindstén. 30.08.–20.09.2025. The exhibition is a conclusion of her stay at the ARV.International artist residency in Vishovgrad, Bulgaria. More info at www.arv.international / www.heerztooya.com

«The eye is cast out from the surface of the Earth, orbiting briefly through the atmosphere before tears descend like light rain onto the angled screen of the telescope. They fall through layers of historical markers and bodily cross-sections. Fragile—like a butterfly’s wing—the eyelid holds the eyeball close to death. Dying: that inevitable return to the sheath that held us before we first propelled outward. Kicking, pushing back against the innermost wall of the womb, screaming. Into the silence that preceded the first day of this century, or perhaps the last century’s first.»

The exhibition is supported by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee and Helge Ax:son Johnsson’s Foundation. Many thanks to Tequila Bar Fnky Mnky for serving free drinks on the opening night. @tequilabarfunkymonkey / @swedish_arts_grants_committee

The solo exhibition Double Moon at Heerz Tooya is a result of Lindstén’s stay at the ARV.International artist residency. The exhibition consists of new artworks created in the rural setting of Vishovgrad, where jackals howl under moonlight and a starry night sky present without being eclipsed by artificial light. Double Moon is a continuation of her artistic practice exploring meditation on navigation, wings, and celestial cues – in the light of modernity and disrupted night visions.

SÍM Residency artist-in-residence

Karin Lindstén, Sweden @karin_lindsten_
Period of stay: March 2024
Residency granted by: The Swedish Arts Grants Committee

Karin Lindstén graduated from the MFA program at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, in 2021 and received a BFA from Malmö Art Academy in 2019. She works with film, photography, text, sculpture, and drawing in spatial compositions. Her work emphasizes the limits of the human body and its relationship to places, nature, technology, and language.
Statement
My works develop through open-ended listening and speaking to places and materials, where I am sensitive to the medium's memory-bearing materiality. With a poetic and associative approach, I make work that meditates on questions of becoming—of material, time, and language.
