Today we had fruitful discussion with Danish 🇩🇰MEP @karmel80 in Strasbourg at the European Parliament 🇪🇺.

We discussed wide range of issues including Sinhalasation, lack of meaningful steps taken to address accountability for mass atrocities, suspension of GSP+ and more importantly about justice for the families of forcibly disappeared people.

Despite establishing OMP office, Sri Lanka has not been able to trace a single disappeared person.

We also raised the intimidation and threat Tamil parliamentarians faces when taking strong stance for the Tamil people - recent example of illegally arresting MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam.

This is #KarenMelchior, a Danish Member of the European Parliament.

I met Karen back in 2012, in London. She was working as a diplomat at the Danish Embassy – and I was working as a waiter. For some reason she followed me on Twitter and I asked her for some advice regarding my studies. She replied and invited me for lunch to discuss about the ideas that I was considering, back then.

Later, Karen literally left her comfort zone and ran for elections. She became a MEP and joined @RenewEurope 💙

Despite her strong university and professional background, she doesn't always take wise decisions. For instance, she offered me to do my second traineeship at the European Parliament at her office!

Many thanks dear Karen for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to be part of the team. Everyone's making sure that I feel fine and I am eager to keep on learning with you all!

🚩Our Members are stepping up against yet another outrageous legislative amendment, adapted without consultation by the Hungarian government, which would make it mandatory for women to listen to the embryo's heartbeat before an abortion.

This act will not lead to fewer abortions, it will only cripple pregnant women mentally even more! 🤦‍♀️

🛎There are many reasons, health and socially related, why women might make difficult choices, however the decision must be solely theirs to make.

We at #RenewEurope do everything to give the freedom of choice to all women.

That's why we initiated an amendment to the EU's Charter of Fundamental Rights to include every woman's right to safe and legal abortion, wherever in the 🇪🇺they may live.

#Polska2050 #RenewEurope

🟰Equality between women & men is a fundamental right at the heart of the 🇪🇺 project, but still far from being a reality today.

🚺Our mission is to improve & strengthen women’s rights across Europe. This means:

💸Guaranteeing equal pay for equal work
🔚Putting an end to violence against women
📖Ensuring sexual & reproductive rights
💼Pushing for an adequate representation of women in leadership positions
