POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

These photos go back a few weeks to late August and mid-September, when I dragged grandkids Connor, Eddie and Goldie into the boat to fish near home in Eau Claire. We caught mostly perch and bluegills during the trips, but also had a few smallmouth bass hit our worms. The smallies and their acrobatic fights always jack up Connor and Eddie, but I’m happier when they land perch 9 inches or bigger. We can’t head home, of course, before putting all the keepers on a stringer for a grip-and-grin photo.

Something about a weekend of cowgirl boots, honky-tonks & live music just calls to me every so often 🤠

We came to celebrate our girl Emily before the big day 💍 and packed a LOT into the long weekend:

🍳 Brunch at @97westkitchenbar at @hoteldrover
🍖 Texas BBQ from @smokebonebbq
🛍️ The best shopping around the @fortworthstockyards
🎶 Live music, drinks + food at @secondrodeobrewing
🍸 Espresso martinis + more live music at @broncsftw
👢 Line dancing & two-stepping at White Elephant & Longhorn Saloon
🤠 Rodeo + a night out at @billybobstexas, the world’s largest honky-tonk
☀️ Pool time at the Tiki Social | @omnifortworth
🐂 And plenty of wandering around the Stockyards, including the iconic cattle drive

SAVE this one for the next time you get the itch for a Western weekend, too. 🤠

Just a few more scenes from outings this summer where our grandkids took me fishing. Our trips were mostly around Eau Claire, but also Madison (Lake Mendota), Manitowoc on Lake Michigan, cranberry ponds near Warrens, and the West Branch of the Chippewa River near Clam Lake.

The piece of fishing gear my three oldest grandsons most prize is the common, everyday stringer. They learned about stringers while fishing with me from shore, piers and my cedar-strip rowboat. Even when we use my 1995 Lund Alaskan and its live-well, my grandsons like to yank out the live-well’s plug as we head in, and then string up our catch for photos at the dock. They can’t always tell who caught which 7-inch bluegill or 8-inch perch, but they tell Penny whose stringer holds the fish in each photo. Here’s some photos from last week with grandsons Lleyton, Connor and Eddie. #fishstringer #panfish #bluegills #yellowperch #takemefishing

Penny and I took the grandkids on our annual Bluegill Safari on Saturday, thanks to the hospitality of Dave and Travis Lampert. The heat chased us home by noon, but not before the grands caught enough bluegills, sunfish and largemouth bass to make many meals. Grandson Connor caught a family-record 6-pound largemouth bass, and Grandson Lleyton caught the day’s biggest bluegill at 9-1/2 inches. We even saw a family of trumpeter swans. And if you keep swiping to the end, Grandson Eddie said it all in two words. #bluegills #kidsfishing #wisconsinfishing #farmponds #trumpeterswan
