Snippets from the closing of “EAT IT!” at Evening Star Gallery Loved the artist talk! Congrats to @acrowsfeet and all the artists who participated in the show and Doris and Beth for a great show! 👏 This show really made me introspect on our relationship with food as a society. Do technological advancements like GMO and Uber bots help or harm us? What’s the cost of “pretty food”? How much food do we/I waste? Why is there so much food insecurity and what can we do to help? We also talked about emotions that food can evoke - the good, the bad and the ugly. One of my pet peeves is the expectation that a woman “is supposed to” cook and be in the kitchen. I loved @katiehovencamp ‘s mug that said “NOPE” to that! 🫡 oooooo I also learnt about cockroach milk and consumed a matcha cookie with green ants. 🐜 😱 who even am I!! 🙃 #artexhibition #ceramics #claytherapy #handmadeceramics #ceramicgallery

EAT IT!! September 11 - October 18 Last chance to check out this delicious group show! Artist Talk and Closing Pot-luck: Sunday, October 18, 1-4pm Sindey Amar Stacey AS Pritchard Anonda Bell Doris Cacoilo Ai’jhana Cutler Joshua Dantis Beth DiCara Kate Eggleston Svetlana Gershater Katie Hovencamp  Janet Jeun-Gourley Jin Jung Emily Konopinski Kristy Lopez Shuang Meng Amber Sealy Evening Star Studio presents, Eat It! an exhibition of ceramics that explores food, eating and community through ceramics. Celebrations center food and friendships and family. Food brings joy and comfort. It sustains, repairs and reminds. Food is centered daily in our lives and holds a special place in our communities. It is cultural and familiar and it is love and loss. It can also complicate lives and become scarce or painful for many. It must be considered a human right and hunger must be disallowed. As grocery prices climb and environmental crises affect food security we can look to food to explore its politics. The ceramic artworks in this exhibition look to explore our relationship to food individually and in community. The pieces in Eat It! remind us of the joy and fun in food as well as the complex social and political role food occupies in our lives. Gallery hours daily 8am-1pm. Over several months, ten artists met regularly and worked to develop new, site-responsive projects exploring roots, rhizomes, and interconnected systems of life. Drawing on the ecological networks of the South Mountain Reservation, the resulting works engage themes of community, history, ancestry, resilience, symbiosis, and environmental stewardship — activating the landscape through sculptural installation. The exhibition will remain on view at the Wildflower Sculpture Park through the fall season. Visitors are invited to explore the works along the Reservation's trails at their own pace. Maps will be available on site and on our website/instagram accounts. Special thanks to Form Studio at Rutgers University for collaboration on the awesome exhibition signs. Kate Eggleston Bear Trap, 2026 Paper, masking tape, celluclay, sculptamold, acrylic, aqua resin, stakes Artist Statement: “My newly-minted teenager recently had two baby teeth pulled to make room for a palate expander, prompting me to consider the intrusive nature of altering a body I helped create. These procedures will shape how her body functions for the rest of her life, albeit hopefully for the better. As a mother, I love watching my daughter grow and change, and I’m struck by how much of that change is both natural and beyond my control. This experience led me to consider the human relationship with nature. We remove, reshape, preserve, and rebuild, often with the intention of making positive changes. Sometimes those alterations help, and sometimes they have consequences that last for generations. With this set of sculpted teeth, mirroring the shape of a bear trap, I draw parallels between these choices and the landscape of my daughter’s mouth. The stark white monoliths, rooted in dirt and erupting from the wild greenery, reflect the complicated beauty of watching something you love change.” www.kateeggs.com @kate.eggleston #rootsystem2026
