Do you ever decide to do something then work your ass off to make it happen? I heard about Blockbuster week in the fall while doing coaching with @katefrostad. She had no idea she planted a seed. By December, I approached @mikesalvatore_ and asked if he’d co-produce. He had experience and I knew he’d teach me the ropes. I reached out to improvisers I’d played with who had great energy, and we formed a group to spitball ideas. By January, we’d shortlisted concepts and I put together a document with possible games and structures for each premise. When it came time to apply, we thought it’d be better to submit different premises through different people. @asek47 had an inspirational dream about a Harold showing the origin stories of three characters who eventually collide in a crossover episode. That became the Originolds! Mike pitched and refined the Special Features idea, adding games and more detailed structure. I submitted a few others too, including a murder mystery called Only Murders in This Room and a group version of the Armandetta that @adi_comic and I perform as a duo. Then we waited. Mike got the news that Special Features was accepted, and Allison, Mike, and I jumped into action! We booked the MainStage at @comedybardanforth and produced a practice show: Lights! Camera! Improv! Thanks to @purechaosensemble and @catswithhumannamescomedy we got to test Special Features, Originolds, and our first group Armandetta. We came away with experience and even a tiny bit of cash! Our cast changed multiple times because of scheduling conflicts, so sadly we lost @nessiethought as our MD, and @asek47, @groov_rs, and @brianjamesmurray couldn’t attend. The final cast became a mix of the original group and Mike’s Conservatory friends. It included the most incredible improvisers: @hellothisisjoycechan @alejandro__cc @keitheroony @lyndsyalex @thelogiibear Kate Frostad, Mike, and @dewi.minden Unfortunately, Lyndsay couldn’t attend the performance. We missed her sassy hilarity and Jennifer Coolidge impression. It’s amazing what you can do with the right mindset and right people. Thank you @baddogtheatre & @sextrexcomedy 📸 @wut.storytelling @matthewmclaren8040
