An ode to my perfect second summer as Horizon ☀️ 🌅 🌞 Being given the opportunity to make a difference in the community I was raised in is a privilege I can’t even explain. Going to 4-H camp as a kid changed my life, and I hope I am able to make even a fraction of the impact it made on me. Being able to teach these children about the natural world around them made me even more passionate about wildlife and the ecosystem than I already am. From weekends with staffer friends on the river to weekdays hustling up the hill, I always tried my best to take a minute to look at the Shenandoah Valley that raised me <3 The love I have for this place is immeasurable, this is Horizon, signing out for summer 2026🌞🫶🍀

At just 9 years old, I was terrified to go to camp and the only way I agreed to go, was if my mom came with me. What began as a small, scared step turned into something much greater than I could have ever be imagined. The experiences I’ve had through camp are unlike anything else. They’ve shaped me, challenged me, and given me memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. What makes them even more meaningful is the opportunity I now have to now share those same experiences with others. So much of that journey ties back to my Exstension Agent Kaci. The impact she’s had on my life is beyond what words can express and comprehend. From my early days as a nervous first-year camper to now being a Camp Summer Staffer, a leader of the Orange County 4-H Archery Club, and a proud Virginia 4-H All Star. Kaci’s passion, commitment, and love for 4-H lives on through me, and I am honored to be a part of the story she continues to write. Now, as my 13th summer comes to a close and my third year as a summer staffer comes to an end, I cherish all the memories that I have of camp as I carry and live the legacy of 4-H. I still feel that same sense of belonging, excitement and courage to make the best better, as Kaci once did for me, those many years ago, and she will always live on in me, as I live her legacy proud and true. As this summer draws to an end, as school starts and we go back to our normal lives, we must not forget, as her legacy lives on. I Love camp with all my heart TEAM NOVA 2025, I Love You Kaci, I Love You, and miss you Until next time! This is good night and not goodbye
