Congratulations to our spring 2025 interns!

Among many other projects and research, Kate and Ashley took on the role of interviewing students at their university to better understand eating behaviors and habits on campus.

We wish them the very best as they take on this next chapter and work towards becoming Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. We are certain you will be successful in whatever you put your mind to!

Many college students rely on stimulants, drugs, or excessive caffeine to power through long study sessions but this can cause anxiety, insomnia, and other health issues.

A healthier way to stay alert is to:

- Fuel your body with regular, balanced meals and snacks with protein, carbs and fat every 3-4 hours.

- Consume hydrating drinks like coconut water, electrolytes, seltzer, or herbal teas, which support steady energy without the crash.

- Make sure to take short 5-10 minute "mental health breaks" throughout the day and night to allow your brain to rest and rejuvenate.

*Please note that the college videos will be paused for the summer break. We appreciate you following us! We will return in the fall with more insightful videos featuring college students from throughout the country.

Eating from a variety of different meal sources ensures that you are getting both balanced nutrition plus the mental health benefits of meal enjoyment.

While frozen meal options can provide complete nutrition, you will be much happier and enjoy your meals if you mix them up with some freshly prepared options.

Late-night snacking is common in college - but it can also set the stage for habits that don't support your long-term well-being.

When you're up studying, it's easy to reach for sugary, processed snacks that offer little real nutrition. Over time, this pattern can impact your energy levels, mood, and overall health.

Want to support your long-term health?

Swap high-sugar snacks for lighter, nutrient-packed options such as fruit, nuts, yogurt, or whole-grain crackers.

And if you’re craving a drink, try a non-caffeinated option like seltzer water or herbal tea - it won’t disrupt your sleep.

Mindful choices now = better health for years to come.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be expensive, but it often does take a little planning:

When you’re on a tight college budget, it’s easy to grab the most convenient (and usually less nutritious) options. But with a little prep, you can fuel your body in a way that supports your energy, focus, and well-being. If you know you’ll be on campus all day, pack some healthy snacks to keep you going. Here are 4 easy, budget-friendly options:

- Apple + peanut butter packets
- Greek yogurt + granola
- Hummus + baby carrots or whole grain crackers
- Trail mix or protein bar

Bringing your own food can help you stay nourished, make choices that support your health, and result in you feeling better; without overspending.
